"So sorry, we're listening! Please tell us what you need," I requested, hoping he wasn't so offended that he wouldn't give us the clue.
"Alright. Make yer honest intentions clear to me by bestowin' a token to me lady. She's wearin' a green dress and a white feathered hat. When you give her this," he handed us a gold mardi gras necklace, "she will give ye something' in return. Bring it back to me, and I'll give ye yer clue."
"Where is she?" Nate asked. A logical question, but it would be way too easy of he told us.
"She's where her sort ought to be, with other ladies of esteem," the pirate answered cryptically. Nate and I gave each other confused looks, but decided to leave before he could ask us to do anything else.
Once outside, we paused to think of a plan. "Well, I know in the movie Titanic all of the nobility socialized on the deck, right? So maybe that's where she is...Should we start there?" My suggestion was met with a nod of agreement, so we headed off towards the stairs.
When we got to the main deck of the ship, the only people we could see were either frantically running around, trying to get their next clue, or crowded around the bar-I guess they had already given up. I wasn't surprised to see my parents there, laughing drunkenly with some other couple.
"Okay, I guess let's do a loop around the ship to check," Nate said, but he seemed kind of distracted. That's weird-he was looking off at the bar with a frustrated expression. Maybe his parents were passing the time the same way as mine? I guess it was possible; his reaction seemed weird otherwise.
He was walking so quickly I had to practically run to keep up, but I wasn't about to give him the satisfaction of complaining. Plus, I wanted to win, too. He saw how hard I was trying to keep up, smirked, and sped up a little. Typical.
We walked in silence, too intent on our search for the lady in the green dress to argue. Sure enough, we spotted her at the front part of the deck. Nate handed her the necklace, holding out his hand for whatever token it was she would bestow upon us to prove to the first pirate that we were trustworthy. She looked haughtily at us, much like I'd imagine a noblewoman looked at commoners in the olden days, and placed an old-looking coin in Nate's outstretched hand. YES! We could finally get our next clue.
We returned to the pirate quickly, proudly presenting the old coin. He looked in much better spirits-I guess he'd forgotten about our lack of attention earlier. I blushed slightly at the memory of why I'd gotten distracted. I really hope Nate didn't catch on to what I was staring at... I'd hate to give him the idea I was attracted to him, because I definitely wasn't. At all. I swear. I mean, maybe he was the hottest guy I'd ever seen, sure. And yeah, his smirk even made him look hotter... But he was so infuriating!
"So ye've proven yer trustworthy, I'll give ye that. Alright, I guess ye'll be wantin' yer next clue..."
