Keith lay awake in the bed he shared with Lance. He stared at the ceiling and the posters up there while absentmindedly running his hands through Lance's hair. Thoughts of the wide spreading coalition and the previous days mission. The team had received a distress signal the day before and took the day tracking them and saving the creatures from being enslaved by the Galra. Keith had instructed the team to sneak in using Pidge's Lions' new power. Pidge managed to sneak them on the planet undetected and they broke off Voltron to cover the Galra and all sides. Lance had been last to return, and when he did, both him and his lion were a wreck. Lance fell into Keith's arms and cried to him about how he was too late. The Galra knew they were under attack and just started to fire on innocent beings. When using his lion failed, Lance resorted to his bayard and tried to shoot down the enemies but something fogged his vision and brain to the point he dropped to his knees and gave up. When Lance came to, Everyone was dead, the Galra was gone, and he was beaten and cut up. His armor was punctured and bent. Keith had brought his boyfriend to the healing pods and did not take his eyes off him, not even to break for food. He stared at the limp position Lance took. Keith studied the scene so clearly: Lance floating in blue, bubbling space magic. His head was slightly bowed, knees buckled, almost resembling a captured prisoner waiting for the executioners' word to drop a blade down the back of his neck. Blood mixed with the liquid surrounding Lance as each bubble slipped into each cut and bruise to stitch them up. When the pod opened, Keith jumped to his feet and caught Lance with open arms. Now they're here, in Keith's bed, neither one sleeping but both trying to figure out what to say. Keith moved his hands from Lance's hair and placed them on his own forehead. Lance sighed and rolled over to look at Keith. His eyes were still bloodshot from crying earlier but they were also dropped in sorrow and guilt. Lance placed his hand on Keith's chest, closing it into a fist.
"Can we go home? To Earth?" Keith didn't immediately respond, but he opened his eyes and looked at Lance, acknowledging what he had said.
