INTRODUCING...

LA BEFANA

Befana is a character similar to Santa Claus from Italian folklore. She's an old woman who delivers presents to children on Epiphany Eve (the night before January 6th).

She's usually portrayed as a hag riding a broomstick, wearing a black shawl covered in soot because she enters houses through the chimney, which is why she's also referred to as the Christmas Witch.

It's said that she visits all children and fills their socks with candies if they've been good, and if they've been naughty they receive a lump of coal instead. Also, some people believe that she sweeps their floor before leaving, which is symbolic to sweeping away the problems of the old year.
