There are times when I long for inspiration. When I suffer hours on end of thinking, solely devoted to a single paragraph. Maybe even one line of dialogue. These are the times when my fingers ache to type and my notebook calls to me. Yet, no ideas flow. The message is tilted and shadowed. The images formed in the tale are corrupt, no, no, it must be how I see it in my head. How I feel it. Or there are times when I cannot find the atmosphere. The characters sit in a room together. I’ve brought them there, but why? Does it move the story forward? No! Then what’s the point? The plot collapses and my thoughts crumble, so I stop, I try and think again, I can’t. And it hurts.
There are other times when I have too many ideas. They all fight for control in my head, a constant tug-of-war, throwing me this way or that. Me, no, this idea, wait, is this one better? I start to write, pour my soul onto the page with every ounce, every fiber of my being. Then I delete it all and start again. Because it was not good enough. It doesn’t satisfy me. The writing has to be exactly how I see it. I’m not stuck or searching for a plot, no, there are too many, overcrowding the story. Pushing, shoving, at war. Themes and dialogues and characters need to be created, so my pen pushes even harder to the paper. Then I scribble it all away once again. Go back, go back, go back, go back.
So then I created this. Simple, and truthful. Every writer’s ultimate tale. Short enough to not conflict with itself. No characters needing to be developed or filled with dimension and backstory. No talk or description. No walks in the park or gazing at stars in the dead of night. Raw, undulated words that fill the screen. It’s nice, isn’t it? Uncomplicated? Just there? I think so. Even though, after this, my thoughts will once again battle for control in the neverending writing process of every day.
