The man walked behind the stage and so did I. When he finally realized that I was behind him seconds later, he seemed startled. Those crisp blues lit up when he saw me, he took me in and stood there like a deer in headlights. He stuck his hand out for the second time that night and stated one simple word, "Patrick".

I ever so slightly smirked and nodded my head offering up my name. He was still frozen but he was defrosting for sure, he paused for a moment and then spoke again. "I don't even know why I need you here right now but I saw you sulk into this bar and the way you were downing those drinks led me to believe that you needed a buddy for the evening".

His mood was very inviting but I was at a loss for words. The connection was crazy. Never in my life had I ever wanted to be near someone so badly. "So.. y/n, what brings you here?" I could tell that he was nervous so I didn't want to dump all of my sadness into him at first so instead I answered, "well, let's just say that I needed a.. pick-me-up".

As the gears turned in his head, he opened his mouth as if he was gonna speak but he closed it again. He turned around and began to pack his acoustic guitar as if he was still contemplating what to say so I waited patiently. "Um.. sorry y/n" he paused and smiled "I like your name" he chuckled and refocused "you can sit there on the stool while I pack and then maybe we could have a few words outside?" I nodded and took my seat on the uncomfortable stool that may be like a century old. He resumed his mission and when he was done, he turned back around and once again he froze. I was beginning to become addicted to his personality, something about his mysterious persona yet innocent outer shell was beyond intriguing.

I didn't even have to speak, I just stood and walked to the door in the far corner, following in his footsteps. Being a gentleman, he opened the door for me and walked out after. Due to the alcohol in my system, the breezy Autumn air hit me like an arctic wind but I got use to it quickly. "Patrick, I have to say, your work blew me away and that's a hard thing to do" he put his head down and shifted his feet, clearly not accepting my compliment. "My 'work' was a feel for the music industry and nothing more, at least that's what I thought but then somehow fate attached magnets to our backs and well.. here we are". I could tell that he was no longer frozen, he was now heating up and so was I.

When I finally opened up to him about some of the things that were going on we talked for hours and I learned that he too was dealing with some demons and we poured our souls out to each other. When the clock hit 3:00 am I decided that I should go because I was leaving town in the next two hours.

I wasn't expecting the tears to come rushing out but someone opened up the flood gates in my tear ducts, he looked shocked to see me crying all of a sudden but I quickly wiped away the tears and shook my head to get the thoughts out. "Patrick, I will probably never see you again after this night but I just want you to know that you have the best voice I've ever heard and we've met on the shakiest of circumstances and my apologies for that but I feel for you and hope that you get better just like I will. I have to go now."

He blinked twice and began to protest my departure but I was already walking off and by the time I had crossed the dumpy parking lot, nothing else had left his mouth to keep me from moving my legs. I never leave people, this though, is my one exception. I had to go because I would fall too hard for Patrick and never again will I lose my other half. I y/f/n y/l/n vow to never give in again.
