engaged

Christmas of 1985, the Byers, Wheeler, Sinclair, Henderson, and Hopper families were all sitting around a grand table set up in the Byers' household. The four boys sat near each other, Eleven next to Mike, Hopper next to Eleven, and Joyce on the other side of him.

Joyce and Hopper stood up, Jim beginning to clink his wine glass with his fork. "Everyone! We have an announcement," Joyce said happily, looking over at Hopper as she took his hand. "We are engaged!"

The four boys began cheering, along with their parents. Eleven stood dumbfounded. "What is engaged?" She asked Hopper, everyone quieting down to hear her frail voice. Jim smiled as Mike gazed at her lovingly.

"When two people love each other a lot and want to be together forever, they get engaged," he explained, smiling over at Joyce. With a straight face, Eleven grabbed Mike's hand and stood up.

"Mike. We are getting engaged." Mike's face flushed a red as he tried to chuckle it off; meanwhile, Lucas, Will, and Dustin were laughing and making kissing noises.
