I was doodling on a piece of paper as my yearbook teacher was explaining the events that would need to be covered this week.
"We still need coverage on the football game this Friday, Elizabeth can you make it to the game and get pictures?" I looked from my paper to Mrs. Brown, "Yeah I can make it there, I am also taking pictures for the theatre rehearsal but I can just go straight to the game when i'm done." I smiled and she nodded, going back to talking.
I was a pretty active student, I was no star, and I was surely not well known. Even if I wanted to do sports I was terrified to do any. In my 8th grade year in middle school I jumped over a hurdle and broke my ankle, pretty much ending any athletic bone in my body. And I would die if I got up and performed in front of any people, literally. I would probably stand in front of everyone, take one look, and die.
So I decided to take the approach of admiring from the far. So I do theatre tech, yearbook, pretty much the electives that don't involve me well, getting involved. And even though I still don't feel I totally fit in anywhere, at least i'm getting exposure to different possibilities.
After the bell rang I went to the bathroom. I pulled my long brown hair into a bun and looked at myself in the mirror. My dark brown eyes stared back at me. 'Wow I am not looking good today. Maybe I should start wearing makeup', I thought to myself. More girls entered the restroom as I washed my hands.
"It was super cute, you should've been there! He got her a big teddy bear and her favorite chocolate!", one of the girls said. "Yeah, I saw it over like everyone's story," the friend paused. "I wish my boyfriend did that for our two month anniversary. I mean, they've been together for literally two months and they're in love. What a perfect match."
They were talking about Ashton Charles and Kenzie Balling. The "it" couple at our school. Captain of the football team and caption of the cheerleaders? What a cliche! I mean, i'm happy for them and all, I don't talk to either of them, maybe they are in love.
As I entered my history class I sat down next to my best friend, Amber. "Amber, are you seriously watching that," I rolled my eyes.
"What," she looked up, "They are so cute!"
My teacher entered the room and started lecturing about the start of civilization. The start of when people had time for hobbies, and family, and falling in love. Right, as if.
