"I love you." I say while staring into his wide green eyes. He doesn't even know how fucking much I love him. "I love you too." He assures me while shifting his gaze from my eyes to my lips. He leans closer to me, I can feel his warmth. I can smell him. Oh does he smell so damn good, like that smell that comes from a tree. Earthy. He makes me feel funny in my own skin. Funny in a good way. He makes me want to... his lips land on mine before I can even react. I shift and kind of jump a little. Just looking at his lips is amazing and now they're on MINE. Tasting him is euphoric. His mouth doesn't taste much like anything but having it on mine makes it better than everything. He pulls away slowly and looks back into my eyes, like he's just seeing the world in color for the first time. His lips curve into a smile and my stomach practically does flips. "I really do fucking love you" Alex says with his perfect, raspy voice. Oh my god, he's the one. I married the love of my life.
We look into each others eyes not saying anything for awhile. Just admiring what we have. And how lucky we are. How we married the love of our lives. Each other. We got an apartment in queens. We are just happy with where we are together.
Our gazes are thrown off after awhile by some loud noises outside in the hall and then we hear our neighbor Katie scream from down the hall. Then a gun shot and the screams stopped. We both jumped off the bed, so fast we almost fall into the wall. Panicking I start to shake so hard my bones hurt and I look over at Alex, he's just standing there with his eyes open so wide that it looks like he's about to jump out a window. He looks over at me and our eyes meet. My mouth open not sure what to do or say, he speaks up. "Stay here." He orders. I try and refuse only to be shot down. "I said stay here Braden!" He heads out the bedroom door into the living room and I follow him. Clearly not listening to his demand in staying put. He walks around the bar into the kitchen and heads closer to the front door. I stay back far enough so he doesn't know I didn't listen. I hide behind the bar to his right. He puts his hand on the door handle ready to open it, "Wait!" I yell in a loud whisper. Alex turns his head towards my voice and glares at me. I toss him his old bat from high school that was hanging on the wall above the bar. He grabs the handle again and starts to turn it and before he opens the door another shot goes off. I don't notice how close it was at first, until I see a bullet hole in the door in font of him. Alex drops to his knees and turns his head slightly and barely catches my gaze before falling over. I yell in pain, my heart sinks and hurts and I'm confused. I panic and run to him and lift up his head. Shaking mine and tears streaming down my cheeks. My eyes burning. He points to the lock on the door and try's to shove me but clearly to weak to move me. I look at the door and back at him and quickly jump to my feet and lock the dead bolt as quickly as I could. Just as the clearly armed person on the other side tries to open the door. I rush back down to Alex still lost and frightened. The thought of losing him keeps replaying in my head over and over and just can't focus on anything but I'm aware of everything that's happening around me. His blood starts flowing out of his chest and forming a puddle around him. He just looks in my eyes. Like he's just seeing me for the first time. "You're so beaut-iful, I lo-ve you." Alex manages to speak and then his eyes start to gloss and in my head I just keep screaming what the fuck over and over, while my body is softly shaking his hand that is in mine. "Don't you fucking die! You can't, I fucking love you! I need you!" He keeps looking at me and then looks away. He pulls his hand out of mine and points at the fire escape out the window, then his hand drops. "No! You can't fucking leave me!" So broken and horrified I forgot that the person who shot Alex was still in the building and my head snaps to the door as it's being kicked for my the other side. I panic and rush to my feet and look back to the window. I run as fast as I can and open it, climbing through it onto the fire escape. I close it behind me and make my way down a story, then I hear the door finally break open. I hesitate for a second quickly recovering and making my way down the other two stories. Once on the ground I start to run like hell.
