Denis

Who is he?

Denis was born in Paris. Not long after his sixth birthday, his parents mysteriously died. The only thing that he had left of them was a silver crucifix necklace, which he had on him ever since. Denis's uncle, Pierre, adopted him, as he had promised to the boy's father. However, the way Pierre acted towards his adoptive son, wasn't even remotely close to loving. Denis was thrown into a room with only a small window, locked away from all human contact. His only friend was Pierre. Denis was being used for 'medical' experiments his whole life long. His 'father' was a Hunter, part of a select group of people who kept the Parisians safe from the constant threat of monsters. In order to find out more about those monsters, Pierre used Denis to create one of them.
After fifteen years, the scientist finally managed to create a potion which would make Denis a monster. However, something went wrong, and a creature more powerful than expected was created. Denis finally saw a way to escape, and ran away.
It took days for him to become the actual creature, and during those days he suffered in the sewers, the only safe place for monsters like him.
During his second day there, someone had heard his cries. A handsome young person approached him. Their name was Lorence, a wizard. The first day, Lorence appeared to him in male form and tried to form a bond with Denis. It didn't take long for them to grow a friendship. They stayed together for the night. However, when Denis woke up the following morning next to a handsome woman, he was shocked. Lorence then explained that they sometimes have a male body, sometimes a female one, according to the way they feel. Of course, Denis was confused at first, but he learns to live with it.
Together, Denis and Lorence tried to find a safer place, away from all the other monsters hidden in the sewers.
Meanwhile, Pierre continued his search for Denis. He needed him for his experiments! He feared that, should Denis grow more powerful and realise how he had been abused for years, there would be no stopping him. Pierre would get killed by his own creation. However, after months, he found the silver crucifix Denis's mother had given her son. Flesh was burnt onto it. That was the moment Pierre realised his monster wasn't able to endure silver, or crucifixes. Together with the other Hunters, he developed special, silver bullets, with crucifixes engraved into them.
In the mean time, Denis and Lorence have found an abandoned little house on the Île de Cité, near the Notre-Dame. Since Denis appeared human during daytime and Lorence always was in human form unless they chose not to, they could easily live there without being noticed.
However, as the war between monsters and Hunters grew tenser, the two were forced to stay inside, for anyone who was even rumoured to be a monster was shot on sight by Hunters. Of course, Pierre would recognise Denis immediately as well. There was no way they would be able to leave the city, for anyone who wanted to get in or out was examined by Hunters. Denis and Lorence were trapped.

Pierre had kept the Denis's crucifix. With the help of a captured Wizard, he was able to track down his adoptive son. Out of revenge for the years he had hidden, Pierre shot Denis. Lorence was executed shortly after.
