<Lucy>
I was breathless by the time I got downstairs. Not because of running, but because I was so happy. I reached the bottom of the stairs and saw Lockwood waiting in the hallway, his new coat on, staring at the ceiling and rubbing the back of his neck. When he heard me coming, he turned and took a quick glance at my neck, where the necklace he gave me was hanging, and grinned like all of his wishes had come true in those short few seconds. "So, Luce, you ready?" he asked.
"Yep," I replied as I slipped throught the door which he held open for me. We walked a while in silence; it wasn't an awkward silence, but a natural, comfertable one that came with Lockwood like a package deal.
I felt something warm circle my shoulders and my heart stopped for a second : I gasped.
"Sorry," he muttered and lifted his arm, rubbing the back of his neck again. I looked up at him and he was...blushing. Lockwood was blushing! I felt so bad that I'd let myself ruin our moment like that, so, without stopping to think if what I was doing was stupid or not, I wrapped my arm around his waist and pressed myself aginst him. He stiffened, then let out a sigh and put his arm around my shoulders again. Again, we walked in silence- in a perfect, beautiful silence that said more than any words possibly could. It was the happiest moment of my life so far.
By the time we got to the Gardens, it was around 3o'clock. We sat under the huge elm tree where Marissa Fittes had allegedly banished her first Type Two ghost and spoke anout nothing too important; small talk- I hated it.
"Do you like it?" Lockwood asked suddenly.
"Sure, I mean, there's a nice view of-"
"I mean the necklace." he had gone a bit rosy around his collar and I was a bit taken back by his quick change of subject- had my talking bored him?
"I-I um..." I stumbled over my words; how could I tell him that it was the most precious thing that I owned? I took a deep breath and pulled myself together, "I love it, Lockwood. It's the most beautiful thing that I own." I gave a nervous laugh and looked at the tear drop shaped sapphire embedded withing the golden heart. A minute might have passed between us where we didn't say a thing.
And then, out of nowhere, a spirit began to shimmer in the semi-twilight sky. It pulled a face, and I instantly knew who it was. That stupid skull.
I was furious. Once again, it had ruined a specail moment. I didn't think as I chucked a flare that I had store in my pocket at the spirit and the skull faded back into nothing and after scowling, Lockwood turned his attention back to me. He smiled and leaned in. I froze. Lockwood was going to kiss me: my heart was doing a thousand beats per minue- my mind was in overdrive.
His lips gently brushed mine. I felt his breath flutter against my face, I looked up at him; his cheeks were bright red but I knew mine were brighter. A slow, shy smile crept up his face and I felt myself get even hotter. He lifted his hand and touched my cheek with the back of his fingers, leaning in again. This time, I met him halfway, balencing on the tips of my toes because of his extra tall figure. His hand rested on my back and I felt myseld simultaneously wraping my arms around his neck.
It felt like an age before be broke apart, and when we did, we were both out of breath and blushing even deeper than before- if humanly possible.
"Finally," he said with a grin. Every thing lit up when he smiled, my heart did backflips inside my chest and I smiled back, burying my head in his jacket. My fists clenched the fabric when he said, "I think I'm love with you, Lucy Carlyle."
