I grip onto the steering wheel of my old beat up car in response to the echoing radio, "our great leader has officially, and successfully kicked out 43% of the T's well... the minorit-" I turn the volume knob making the voice go mute. I slow down for a check. I stop and roll down my window.
The blue eyed lady gives me a fake smile and says "good morning ma'am, can I see your Identification card and your left thumb?" I hand her my identification card and she scans it and gives it back, then she scans my thumb. A green light flashes on her device.
"Thank you very much and drive safe." She hits a button that lifts the traffic lever so I can pass. I drive off slowly.
I glance at my rear view mirror and see that the ladies light flashes red with the civilian that was behind me. She asks him to get out of the car. I tap my thumb nervously on the wheel. I abruptly do a U turn. I pull over and get out of my car.
I see tears streaming down the civilians eyes as he is getting handcuffed. "Hey! What the hell is going on here?!" I ask.
I hear the guy mumbling "What did I do? Please tell me. What did I do?" Fueling me with anger.
"Ma'am, I am gonna need you to step away and get back in your car," she tightens his handcuffs.
"No. I am not moving. Under law 23AC, he has the right to know what he did," I explain. The guy examines me and mouths why are you helping me? I smile at him.
"Alright. When I scanned his Identification card it came out as fake one. Simple as that. All forgers must be escorted out of traffic and put held. Their property, being his car, then becomes a part of the government's property so we take the car to the garage," she trails on.
"Scan his Identification card again," I interrupt her because I want to see it for myself. She takes the Scanner and scans it again. Green.
I clap my hands slowly. I cannot believe this check officer almost held this innocent guy. I signal her to take his handcuffs off. I go up to him and hug him. "Thank you so so very much miss," tears form in his eyes.
"No, thank you for being so brave. Remember you have rights," I tap his shoulder and turn to the check officer who doesn't know what to do.
I take out my device and start to make the report. "As you may know, it is my duty to report you ma'am." She gives him his keys back.
She approaches me and pulls me to the side. "I am so sorry for this inconvenience. Please do not report me. I am begging you." I cut her off with my hand and I mouth I'm sorry. And walk away making my report.
I get back into my car and start to drive off. I check my mirror again and see that the civilian is driving behind me. A smile forms. I switch lanes and signal him roll down his window. He does.
I yell, "Hey my name is Rebecca. Let's go get some coffee, follow me." He nods and drives behind me.
We get to the shop and sit down. "Again thank you very much for what you did for me. There aren't many good people left here in the region." He starts to thank me again.
I reply, "what is your name?"
"Victor." He smiles and stretches his hand out and waits for me to shake it.
"Well it's very nice to meet you, Victor." I smile and shake his hand.
