~ "But I know this ships just keeps on sinking. Gotta just keep on swimming." ~

- Russ, Titanic

"Al, get me that wrench over there!" Arwnold shouts. I pick up the heavy wrench and launch it overhead towards his direction. We're fixing starfighters that had been damaged in combat. I love fixing things. Just like my mom. My mom, Gullianah, is a pilot for the resistance and she's good but not half as good as she is an engineer. She's probably the best engineer in the base. My dad, on the other hand, Joffrey, is definitely the best pilot in the resistance, second to Poe of course. My dad is a force user just like me. No one knows that either of us is keen to the force, not even my mother. When I was born, he felt it in me and as soon as I learned to walk, he forced me into daily private sessions to increase my skills and make me stronger with the force. When Master Luke comes to visit the base, he tries to persuade my dad to put me in his Jedi Temple so that I can hone my skills in the force and eventually become a Jedi. One time, he even offered my dad a place in the temple as a teacher, but my dad refused. As for Poe, he and I are inseparable. He is my best friend. Brother even, but he was dispatched to Jakuu and it was killing me that I couldn't contact him. I miss him like fucking hell but most of all, I worry about him.

"Hey Aaliyah, your parents are being dispatched. Go on, say your farewells and then I want you back here fixing this broken fuse. Alright?" Arwnold said in a heavy cockney accent.

"Yes, sir. I'll be back before noon."

"Earlier!" He gruffly demands. I turn on my heels and head for the Landing Pad. My parents are leading a squadron of starfighters into the Western Reaches to capture a general of the First Order that could become a valuable asset to the Resistance. I'm excited but my worry increases tenfold now. With Poe and my parents gone, I don't know what I'm going to do in the base. I sense I'm going to be stuck in perpetual shifts of anxiety and boredom. The good thing is that my parents are estimated to be back the next day before sunset. I quickly pass by my cabin to get some gifts I'm going to give to my parents before they leave. The gifts are a pendant and a watch. As I walk into the Landing Pad, I see General Organa talking with my parents, probably a debriefing before going onward to the mission. I waited for them to finish and then I walked up to them.

"Hey ma, hey pa." I say reluctantly.

"Hey, darling." Ma reciprocates.

"Before you guys go, I have some things I want to give you." Their faces lighten with expectation.

"Pa, when I was younger, remember you took me to that one planet with the weird lady to get those robes for Ma's birthday?"

"Yea. Takodana. We need to go back to visit Maz one of these days." He adds thoughtfully.

"Yea well I found this broken watch on the floor, in the castle, and I kept it because I wanted to fix it for your birthday. I never did until a couple of days ago and well... here you are." I hand him the wristwatch and he stares at it with awe.

"Wow. I don't know what to say. It's amazing. Thank you, honey." He smiled.

"And Ma. This pendant," I hold it out to her and she takes it with great fragility, "A good friend gave it to me. He meant a lot to me and this pendant means a lot to me." I stare at the pendant thinking back to the beautiful boy that gave it to me.

"You mean a lot to me. Both of you. So... please be careful out there. Get that son of a bitch and come back." I smile. My mom looks me in the eyes and holds my cheek.

"I love you darling and I'm sorry...don't ask why... just know I'm sorry." A single tear rolls down her cheek. She looks completely heartbroken and that kills me. I don't know why she's acting this way. Her deportment seems painfully unusual, but I won't question her now. Maybe when she comes back.

I hug my parents goodbye and they both kiss my forehead before heading into the ships. I watch them fly off in all glory with a squadron behind them, following their every move. I quickly run back to Arwnold in fear of his scolding. I spend the rest of the day fixing minor things in several starfighters.

As the sun sets, I walk back to my cabin thinking about the pendant. The pendant Ben Solo gave me. Whenever he and Mister Skywalker came to visit the base, I would always be his company. I barely recall the first time he visited. I do remember that he seemed so lonely. He always seemed intimidated and would hide behind his mom or uncle. But I felt the force strong around him which compelled me to approach him. After the first encounter, we became great friends. We always played with the force together. He never came back after I turned 17, three years ago. I overheard Master Luke and General Organa talking about him one day.

"Leia, we knew this was likely to happen." Luke paused, "His propensities to the dark side were because of our father and you know that." General Organa shook her head vehemently, sobbing quietly.

"It's my fault he murdered all those Padawan. I'm sorry Luke. I shouldn't have sent him." She broke down and cried loudly. Luke walked up to her and hugged her, enclosing her face in his shoulder to muffle the loud sobs of a disheartened mother.

"It wasn't your fault sister. It was Snoke. Snoke and the darkside." Luke said indignantly in hopes to console Leia.

"That's what the Sith do. They manipulate and kill and that's what Ben is, Sister."
