*Emma's POV*

The time had come. Christmas was the last day we spent in our old house. We'd already packed up all of our things and they were on the way to Indiana, so we'd gone out to In'N Out for the most untraditional Christmas dinner ever. Surprisingly enough, it was one of my favorite moments with my parents ever. Unfortunately, we didn't have any Christmas presents to open because they were all on the way to Hawkins. My parents were really cool about everything and after dinner, they let me go say goodbye to all my friends. I was leaving California hopeful and with good memories.

We left the 26th of December, we basically drove nonstop for the whole 31 hours it took to get from Cali to Hawkins, only stopping for gas, to switch drivers, and to eat a few times. We got there at around 2AM, and all of our stuff was left inside by the movers. Nothing was set up, so we ended up staying the night in a small hotel. We woke up at around 10 and were at the new house by 12 after we had breakfast/lunch. I smiled at the suburban house we pulled up to. It was nice, definitely bigger than the house my parents and I lived in in California. I smiled at my parents before rushing inside to check things out. There were 3 decently sized bedrooms, one for my parents, one for me, and one I assumed was a guest bedroom. I chose the bigger out of the two non-master bedroom rooms that were left.

We spent a few hours setting everything up and getting our things in place. I smiled as I looked around. The place was coming along fairly well and, surprisingly, it felt cozy and very much like home. I showered, feeling slightly gross and sweaty after a whole day of what I considered hard labor. After getting myself ready for the rest of my afternoon, I picked up the phone on my night stand and dialed Billy's number.

"Hello?" I heard Billy's stepmom's voice.

"Hi Mrs. Hargrove, it's Emma, can I please speak to Billy?" I asked.

"Oh Emma, of course. Hold on just a second," I heard a muffled shout of Billy's name and some more muffled yelled before Billy's voice came on the line.

"Hello," He said in an annoyed tone.

"Now Billy, is that any way to greet your best friend?" I giggled.

"Ems, hey!" he exclaimed, his whole demeanor changing almost immediately, "Sorry, babe. Susan didn't tell me it was you. Are you here yet? What's going on? When can I see you?" I smiled to myself before answering.

"I'm here, and that's what I was calling you about. I'm all done unpacking, so what time are you picking me up and what are we doing?" I asked. I could hear him laughing on the other end of the call.

"Dress for a party. I'll be there in 20, what's your address?" I told him and he hung up almost straight away. I looked at my outfit and frowned before changing into something a little more party like. I threw on a cropped spaghetti strapped, checkered shirt and my favorite pair of denim jeans as well as  a pair of white vans. I drew back half of my hair and tied it with my favorite scrunchie. I swiped my mascara wand through my eyelashes a few times before smiling at my reflection. I took my denim jacket from my closet and rushed down the stairs after hearing the beeping of a car horn in the driveway.
