"Hey, I like your hair." Honestly, I had no idea that's all it took to make a friend. I mean what do you expect out of a shy 11-year-old girl. The works? Yeah that's not going to happen. The person I was talking to was Gold. Gold (or what I thought of her then) was a shy kid with stylish black hair and a pretty smile. I had heard about her, although most of it was that she looked like me, not very good for starting a conversation. If I had known how close I would get to her in the next five years, I would have passed out there right on the ground. But I didn't so I just went back to class. After that I saw her in the hallways occasionally and tried to talk to her, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Towards the end of the year I got a little more confident but every time I saw her I froze up and I couldn't speak. Finally, the end of the year came. I was free of the sixth grade, which considering I almost failed, was a great accomplishment in my book. In the summer I couldn't stop thinking of Gold. I wanted to be her friend badly. She seemed so nice, so innocent, and so pretty. I couldn't wait to see her.
"Great." I said happily. I was looking at my new classmates for seventh grade. I recognized some names, like Cherry, Moon, Rose and Flower; but I stared excitedly at Gold's name. She was in my class and I would get to meet her.
"Hey, Gold? Is it?" I stuttered "I think I've seen you before."
"Oh, it's you." She smirked "What's your name?"
It dawned on me. I had never told her my name.
"Oh, my name is Shimmer."
"Hi Shimmer... I'm happy that we are in the same class." she replied
"Me too." I stuttered slowly.
We went on with orientation as normal. It was middle school after all so what could go wrong? I found out that day that I had seven different teachers; one for every class. Before you look at me like I had been hiding under a rock for a year, at my school sixth grade was still elementary and I only had two teachers. Only 5 more days till school started. After orientation my mom and I went shopping for clothes. I ran into Gold at the store...literally. "Ouch!" she shrieked "Ow! My poor ears." I retorted sarcastically. She looked up at me and laughed. Not in a mean way but in a "that was kind of cute" kind of way. I ducked under some clothes because that seemed like a smart thing to do. Yeah it wasn't so smart. I fell face down on the floor after I had tripped in something...I think it was air. I looked like a complete idiot. After all I just wanted to impress her. She seemed so cool and had her life together and she was twelve. My little brain couldn't handle it or anything for that matter. I was meeting new people, shopping for new clothes, getting into my brand-new life in middle school. Gold was smiling down on me and helped me up. "Ugh, you're such a dork." she smirked and rolled her eyes. "Well off to shop." she added. Just as she came she whisked around to where she came from and walked over to the jewelry section. Stay away from there I thought. I'm glad I had to go home after that because I had to find a way to make up my reputation after that. Just how...
"Hi!" I heard a voice say.
"Eh? Who are you and why are you taking to me?" I questioned rudely.
"My name is Cherry. What's yours'?" she replied cheerfully.
I pondered my response. I honestly didn't want anything to do with this kid. Cherry was a relatively tall kid with a cute bun and a pretty smile. She also wore glasses, probably because she had horrible eyesight. I think I had seen her before somewhere, but I couldn't place it. She looked familiar, too familiar.
"Hello?" Cherry looked at me weirdly.
"Oh what? I forgot the question." I said nonchalantly
"Your name?" she said coldly
