I was instantaneously thrown into an unfamiliar world of chaos and confusion. Bright white lights shone directly into my eyes, a group of at least 10 people, though there could've been more, surrounded me and pierced my skin with needles at every angle. One tall, blonde doctor hovered over me and examined my facial features. He pulled back my weary eyelids and sighed

"Her pupils are dilated, give her 10 of morphine and put her on a local to ease the pain" I had no idea what any of that meant but before I could come to my senses, I felt a cold liquid invade my veins and suddenly felt more uncomfortable than ever. "Just relax sweetie" a squeaky female voice spoke and I felt a hand lay on my head. I hissed in pain, I must've took a pretty bad blow in the impact. My eyes started to close and I could not fight the urge to just sleep and never wake up, although I tried as hard as I could. It was no use, I gave in, maybe this was the end for me. Maybe I was finally going to be in the place I'd always thought about

and maybe it was for the best

My tired eyes peeled open again however my vision was blurry and I could not make out where I was-heaven maybe? No, definitely hell. My vision returned to it's normal state and I could see that I was lying in a hospital bed, but I wasn't alone. I twisted my neck to the right to see Lily watching over me contently, and Alex sat sprawled out across the chair behind her, with his eyes fixed on his phone.

"Oh my god Dani you're okay" Lily squealed throwing herself at me, causing Al to drop his phone onto his lap. He jumped up eagerly from the old chair and rushed to my side,

"Dan I am so sorry, this is all my fault, I should've stopped it, I knew it was a bad idea, I..." Alex began to blurt out in a panicked fluster

"Calm down Al, I'm fine" I Interrupted him as I laid my hand on top of his to calm him. His tense features immediately softened

"Not like the great AT to panic now is it?" I raised my eyebrow mocking him. I caught lily smirking in the corner of my eye, but I kept my childish glare fixed on my leather jacket not-so-cool best friend,

"I wasn't panicking, I was, erm, just, taking blame, you know?" He stuttered, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand

"Save it Al" I giggled. I loved the little nickname I gave him. I'd called him that ever since we were kids because I could never pronounce his full name, Alexander, which he used to introduce himself as. I was the only one who ever called him Al, his 'friends' preferred AT.

Hours passed and we were all bored shitless. Alex was sat in the same position as he was when I awoke- sprawled out across the chair, his legs propped up against the side of my blue bed- only this time his black 'One for the Road' leather jacket lay neatly across his lap. Strands of his well slicked back hair were beginning to displace themselves in the heat of the stuffy room. His dark brown eyes hadn't moved from his phone for at least 20 minutes, he seemed tense, like he was waiting for a call or something. Who am I kidding, Alex Turner was always tense.

Lily, on the other hand, was a bag of nerves! Her fragile frame was sat at the end of my bed, her legs vigorously shaking making the small heels of her boots tap annoyingly on the floor- though I didn't mind it, I did it myself most of the time. She had one of her perfectly manicured hands at her lips as she chewed lightly on her bright pink nails. The other was constantly pushing back her dark blonde hair when it fell into her porcelain face. Needless to say, she was scared- what for, I could only guess.

"Al?" I spoke after what seemed like a lifetime of silence. His glazed eyes shot up to meet mine,

"Mhm?" He replied sleepily, stretching out his back

"What happened? The crash, I, I don't remember much." I merely spoke, making sure the room was empty. Lily had left just minutes before, leaving me and Alex alone. He took a deep breath and sat up on the chair, leaning his elbows on his knees, before beginning his recount of last nights events.

"Jake thought it would be fun to dare you to drive your dad's brand new Audi down the 'haunted' road in the next town and film it. So he set the camera up on the bonnet and wired it to the iPad, and you agreed, as always." He paused to regain himself

"Al? You okay?"

"Hmm? Oh yeah sorry, so, you got in and drove. We watched on the iPad for a while and everything seemed to go just fine. Until you swerved randomly and the car spun over and over and over again, my heart was in my mouth Dan I thought I'd lost you." He breathed

"It's okay Alex, I'm safe now" I reassured him.

"We called an ambulance but they said somebody had already called for you, when we got to the scene your phone was smashed to shit and there was nobody in sight for miles, it's like the phone call came from, aliens or some shit"

Then it hit me

The lights.

I wasn't alone that night.
