My Story

Bullying used to never really be a problem for me. I would hear it in lessons and see it in movies but it never seemed real to me. It was as real as the super villains and the monsters that I would see in movies. But the truth is it is the super villains and the monsters, and it is very real.

A while ago I realized how difficult it was for me to eat. It wasn't anorexia, but in my eyes it is almost worse than that. Instead of not wanting to eat, I just simply could not. I physically couldn't take a bite out of a apple or bite into a sandwich.

Over a year ago Doctors and Dentists confirmed my suspicions and told me that I had a severe open bite due to my bottom jaw growing quicker than the top. Basically, none of the teeth in my mouth meet. Imagine that? The most basic instinct in human nature is to eat, and I can't do that.

To work towards the correctional surgery they are doing things such as giving me braces and a palette expander (For the second time in my life) they even removed my bottom wisdom teeth! That doesn't seem that bad, but I am a freshman in high school.

And so bullying starts.

People would tell me that people don't get their wisdom teeth removed at such a young age and that I was lying to gain attention. But honestly what attention would I want? I am a depressed and anxious kid who hates school because of the people there. Why would I want their attention on me?

But they begun to make fun of me for having braces, and having a stupid smile. But what hurts the most is that they call me anorexic because I don't eat at lunch. But the truth is I don't want them to see me struggling to swallow down a sandwich.

Disabilities and sicknesses are such a difficult thing. When you have cancer, or break a arm it's very real. People sign your cast and they visit you in hospitals. But if you have depression or you have something as unheard of as a open bite (among high schoolers) then it isn't even real. A broken arm and depression are both sicknesses, so treat them as such.

They see it as a way of getting attention. But when I decided to tell them about it to try and stop the bullying they just laugh. They told me that I busted my jaw for an excuse to get plastic surgery because of how ugly I am. Going home everyday I honestly don't know whether or not if I'm ever going back.

If there is anything that I am getting out of this as I live it every single day is things like this are real. Bullying and sicknesses they are very real to some people, like me. So even if you don't see, try and understand it
