Chapter 26: Heartaches

She parked the car inside the school and I couldn't get myself to leave.

"Insan, andito na tayo."

"I know."

"Come on. Remember what I told you. Just be your old self. Even if it hurts so much, you have to be strong, okay? I'm always here for you." She smiled and caressed my cheek.

"Thank you."

"Ano ka ba naman. You don't have to thank me, we're best friends, we're practically sisters. Now let me see your smile. Come on, Penelope. Smile! Kung hindi kukuritin ko yang singit mo." Banta nito. Hindi ko na din napigilang ngumiti sa biro nito.

"That was so lame."

"At least you smiled. Now go! Behold cause I'm giving you thy freedom!" She practically shoved me ouside my car.

With a new courage, I went to my first class and concetrated on the lesson and tried not to think too much about my problems. I just finished my last subject and so far, I haven't seen Maddox around school. He's probably too broken to even go to school. I felt really guilty to cause him such pain.

Napansin ko din na normal ang lahat sa school. Kadalasan naman ay mabilis kumalat ang tsismis sa campus. They probably doesn't know that me and Maddox are over. Maddox is pretty popular, at kapag nalaman nilang break na ito sa akin ay malamang pagkakaguluhan nanaman siya ng mga babae. Mas mabuti na rin siguro iyon nang sa ganon' mas mabilis siyang makarecover.

It's only been two days but I'm missing his presence, his kisses and everything else about him. I was wiping the tears from my eyes that was about to fall when someone scooped me up, bridal style.

I yelped smacked Luke's shoulder when I realize it was him.

"What the hell, Luke. Put me down!"

"Not unless you tell me why you haven't been in school for two days. "

"Put me down, please."

Luke must've noticed my voice broke because his smile vanished and he immediately set me down. I turned away from him because I feel like crying again but Luke being annoying as he is, he stood in front of me and crouched so that we are eye level.
"Your eyes, redcheeks. They're so red." He said.

"Napuling lang ako."

Kumunot ang nuo nito at gamil ang daliri nito ay inangat nito ang mukha ko upang mapagmasdan ang mukha ko. "Both your eyes? Nah, I don't think so."

"I gotta go." I tried to walk away but he grabbed my wrist.

"You're not going anywhere, redcheeks. Tell me what's wrong. You can trust me."

I sighed and sat in the bench behind us. "Have you seen Maddox?"

"No."

"Alam mo ba kung nasaan siya ngayon?" Tanong ko. Gusto lang malaman kung maayos ba ang kalagayan niya.

"Bakit mo ako tinatanong? Of all people, you should know where he is." Sagot ni Luke. "Wait, speaking of him. Pareho kayong hindi na pumapasok. Dalawang araw ko na din siyang hindi nakikita sa campus. I thought that you two went on a trip or something."

"We broke up, Luke." I replied softly and bowed my head.

"What? Bakit, niloko ka ba niya? Gago yun ah! Akala ko pa naman totoong mahal ka niya."

"Hindi niya ako niloko. Ako ang nakipag-break sa kanya."

"Kung ganon' bakit?"

"Dahil hindi ako ang babaeng para sa kanya. He deserved someone better than me, someone who he can be proud of."
