2 Months Earlier

''This is bullshit!" I yelled.

''Stop swearing Esme! We are moving whether you like it or not!'' My mother said.

I looked over to my dad hoping he would defend me but he stood his ground. I ran into my room and slammed the door shut. I can't believe my parents are making me move away from everything I care about.

Present Day

I looked out the window as we drove to our new house, we were almost there. I loathe having to move away from gloomy Washington to smog-filled LA. I loved Washington, how it rained so often and the mountains, now it's being taken away from me. I mean most people would be excited to move to such a big city but not me.

"We're here!" My mother said. I look over and see the old brick house I had seen in the photos. The movers were already here bringing our things inside.

"Great." I said as I get out of the car. As we walked into the house I notice it is even bigger than I thought. Stained glass windows throughout the whole house and wooden everything.

"How did we even afford this place? I asked.

"Well, honey, the family that lived here before us died in here." My father said.

"Oh, that's just fantastic." I say. First they make me move and now I find out it's probably haunted. "I'm going to look around and unpack." I said.

I go upstairs and find my new room

I go upstairs and find my new room. I chose the room that was the darkest. I made my bed and unpacked a few things. I looked in the next room I assumed would be my parents. The bathrooms had old claw foot tubs and tile floors. I walk down the stairs to check out the rest of the house. I notice a door under the stairs, which I assume leads to the basement. I open the door and slowly walk down the creaky staircase. It was mostly empty except for a few of our boxes scattered around. I walk a little further and I swear I heard the sound of poppers and kids laughing. I look around but I see nothing.

As I turn around to go back upstairs someone is in the way.

"Boo." He said.

I yelp. "Who the fuck are y---"

"I'm Tate Langdon, your neighbor. Sorry about that."

"It's fine and I'm Esme Moore." I said. I decide not to question how he got down here. He's a boy my age with shaggy blond curls and dark brown eyes.

"Do you wanna go listen to some music?" I asked.

"Sure."

"Where did you move from? Tate asked as we sat on the floor and listened to the Smiths.

"Washington state." I said.

"I always wanted to go there."

"Yeah, I miss it, like at least it rains there."

Tate smiles "I love when it rains."

"Me too."

"Do you go to Westfield?

"No not anymore."

"My first days tomorrow, I'm not excited but at least this house is pretty cool, and you." I said smiling. I hear a knock on my door and look over and see my dad.

"Who's this?" He asked.

"This is Tate, our neighbor." I said hoping my dad wouldn't embarrass me.

"We'll be having dinner soon, would you like to stay for dinner, Tate?" My dad asked.

"My Mother is probably wondering where I am so I should go, but thank you."

"No problem, anytime."

"Bye Esme, Mr. Moore."

"Bye." I muttered

A/N: So I don't know if this is any good because I'm new at this but hopefully it will improve over time and sorry about the shortness.
