Getting Close To The Gangleader

Chapter 5

Aaron's POV

I go into the basement and into Zander's cell. I signal him to follow me and lead him upstairs. I point him out to the door and go upstairs when I hear something. I go into the training room and see Anastasia punching the shit out of the punching bag. I yell her name but it's like she can't hear me. I go up behind her and wrap my arms around her waist to pull her away. She turns around and knocks me to the ground, she starts punching me on my face but I'm able to push her off and pin her down to the floor somehow.

"Anastasia! Snap out of it!"

She opens her eyes and inspects my face. Im sure I look like shit but that was the least of my worries right now. All I care is that Anastasia is calm and is thinking straight. She slowly brings her hand up and gently brushes it over my face. I suck in a breath when I feel the pain and she pulls her hand away quickly. I see regret, guilt, and sadness cross her face before she pushes me off and runs out of the room. I'm up in a second and yell out for her.

"Ana come back. Where are you going?"

She ignores me and runs out of the house. She's out of the house before I make it downstairs and I bump into Zander. He looks over my face and asks,

"What happened to your face? Why did Anastasia run off? Did something happen?"

"I thought you were out of the house."

"I was going to leave but realized I don't even know where I was. I was going in the direction you went but Ana just went running and pushed me aside."

"I'll take you back home but I need to find Ana first. I don't want her doing anything stupid...again."

Before he can say anything else I jog over to where I left my car keys at and tell him to follow me. We go out to the front of the house and get into my car. I go to the first place that comes to mind that she'll go to and speed to the location. I get out not caring about Zander and run to the cliff Anastasia and I always go to. When I get there she's just sitting down with her knees up to her chest and she's staring down at the water. I jog over to her and sit next to her before pulling her to me. She slowly brings her arms up and wraps them around my neck. She sobs into my chest and I just run my hand through her hair and rock us back and forth.

Zander's POV

I'm currently walking through Anastasia's house trying to locate Aaron so he can show me the way out when I hear yelling coming from somewhere. I walk in that direction and as I'm walking up the stairs Anastasia pushes me aside and runs past me. A couple seconds later Aaron comes down yelling for Anastasia.

"Ana come back. Where are you going?"

By the time he yells out for her she's out the door. He rushes past me and ends up bumping into me. I look at his face and ask,

"What happened to your face? Why did Anastasia run off? Did something happen?"

"I thought you were out of the house."

"I was going to leave but realized I don't even know where I was. I was going in the direction you went but Ana just went running and pushed me aside."

"I'll take you back home but I need to find Ana first. I don't want her doing anything stupid...again."

Before I have a say in anything he jogs past me and tells me to follow him. He leads me to the front of the house and directs me to get in one of the cars that are out front. He speeds to a place and all I can do is sit back and not say anything.
    
He stops the car in the middle of nowhere and gets out. He starts running in a direction and I get out of the car quickly to follow him. When he stops I bend over and gasp for air. I really need to stop smoking. When I can breathe better I stand up and look in awe at the place I'm at. There is a waterfall and the water is so clear. I look at the cliff and that's where Ana is. Aaron has her sitting on his legs and he's rocking them back and forth. I realize she's crying and my whole mood changes. This is different to the Anastasia that punched me a couple of minutes ago. She seems so broken and that's when I knew that underneath the tough facade she put up she was broken over something that had happened to her in the past. 

But what happened?

Aaron's POV

Anastasia ended up falling asleep on me when I was rocking us back and forth. I walked back to the car with her in my arms as she snores lightly. Zander is trailing behind us silently. We go into the car and he gets in the back. I lay Anastasia next to him and she's slightly leaning on him. I chuckle and drive back to the house.

We arrive to the house and when I look back Anastasia is laying on Zander's legs. I get out and open the door. I get Anastasia out and carry her up to the room. Zander gets out and follows me in the house. I point my finger in the direction of the living room and say,

"I'm going to go put her to bed but when I come back I'll drop you off at your house. If anyone bothers you tell them you're with me and they'll leave you alone."

He nods and I give him directions to get there. I go upstairs and into her bedroom. I lay her down and pull the comforter over her. She snuggles into her pillows and I kiss her on the cheek. I go downstairs and see Zander getting along with the guys. I walk into the living room and all their eyes go to me. I pat Zander on the back and tell him that we're leaving and the guys groan in protest.

"But you guys just got here and we're getting along with him! Come on Aaron, let him stay."

"Sorry guys but that's not possible. I'll bring him another day and you guys can talk for as long as you want."

They agree and shut up. I grab Zander and pull him along with me to the car. He gets in the passenger seat and I start driving. 

"Those guys seemed cool. Am I really going to come back?"

"No, I lied to them. You can't come back to this place. This world is dangerous Zander and you or your sister could be targeted by our enemies and possibly killed. Just act like you don't know of our existence. It'll be better for everyone."

I point outside the window and unlock the car.

"We've arrived to your house. Take care and remember what I said. I wouldn't want something bad to happen to you and that would just add guilt to Anastasia. Even though she acts like she doesn't care she does and she cares about you Zander. That's why you should stay away."

He gets out of the car and walks up to his front door. Once he's inside I drive off to the house.

Zander's POV
  
When Aaron told me all that I knew I should listen to him but something in my gut was nagging at me and telling me I shouldn't listen to him and keep seeing Anastasia. There was just something about her that I found interesting but my sister would be put in danger. So what do I do? I do the stupidest thing anyone could do...and go with my gut.
