Mariah's POV

It was Saturday, and I was sitting in front of my vanity, trying to find a way to reduce the size of my pores. For some horrible reason, God decided to give me big pores and horrible skin. Whereas, my sister, was blessed with perfect skin. Which was why the tabs loved her, compared to me of course. Being a socialite is hard, because honestly you have to keep your image up to date. If you look like shit, you get judged. Big Time. They judge on even the most littlest things, sometimes even on the most dumbest things ever too. This is how my mother ended up barging into my room, in her white robe with a face mask on with a glass of wine in her left hand. "May I help you Cassandra?" I asked politely as i wiped off the cream that was on my face. "That's mother to you, not Cassandra." She replied back taking a sip of her red wine. Her lips were already stained red, due to the fact that all she drinks is wine.  "Now remember, tonight is the Gala and your father is expecting to be there. Which means you'll have to be here a little earlier, just so we can take the pre-gala pictures. You know, since the tabloids love seeing us act like a normal family." I merely rolled my eyes at the her choice of words. There was no way that we could ever become one, mostly due to the fact we have never lived an ordinary life. Cassandra's version of a normal family, was one who take family pictures every year posing, just because everyone else did it. I didn't mind it, i actually enjoyed the family photo shoots because at least we could act like we were a close knit family. When in reality, we hardly ever saw each other.

"Are you listening Mariah?" Cassandra asked as she took a big gulp from her glass of wine. She drew me out of my thoughts, completely unaware that she was behind me staring at me through the mirror. "What?" I asked.   I nodded. "Yes, I am. I'll be ready 6:30. Charles will escort me over." Cassandra nodded, "Good, i'll see you there. And make sure to be there before 7:30." She left, the smell of wine following behind her like a group of bees. One of these days, she's going to be peeing out wine, instead of regular urine.

ting!

My eyes landed on the smart phone in front me.

A notification popped up on my phone.

It was  a text from Elias. It's funny because i was just about to text him later on, but i had decided not to.

Elias : Hey, how ya doin?

Me: Pretty good. Hbu?

Elias: Eh, i been 'aight. What are you doing later?

I hesitated in replying. Because whatever answer i would give him, would result into something else.

Me: Well, I got a thing.

Elias: A thing?

Me: Lol. Going to an event.

Elias: Need a pick me up?

I contemplated. Those five words, could mean alot of things to a normal person. However, it meant easy access to my biggest vice. A vice that restores confidence in me, a vice that helps me with dealing with my self esteem issues. A vice that was completely illegal.

But i guess that's what made it 10 times better. The fact it was illegal, and being caught it could mean getting arrested and risk my family's perfect reputation. But without it, i could also put the Lane Family to shame in the socialite world for being a little emotional softie. And in this world, there is no room for softies. Only the fittest survive, and i was going to survive at all costs.

Me: Sure. Meet me at the Lake in 30mins.

I stood up and grabbed my keys and left my room.
