"I'm giving up babeh..."
"I feel like I've been driving for miles.."
"(This time won't you save me, this time won't you save me)"
"This time won't you save me, this time won't you save me, baby I can feel myself giving up, giving up, giving up, giving up..." I opened my eyes as I finished up the song and smiled. I looked at my boss, Ellen, but she didn't seem to look to pleased.
"What the fuck was that? I told you to go up an octave as soon as the beat drops." Ellen scolded me. I was in the booth recording my newest song on my album. I've been here since 6 this morning going at the attempt non stop but nothing seemed to please her. Bey came to support me as she sat outside the booth on the couch giving me a head nod letting me know I did good, but as soon as I step out or they stop the music, Ellen was grilling my ass. I sighed as she told them to rerun the recording to 'Save Me.'
"From the top." Ellen sat down in her seat and the beat came alive we listened to the song as everyone nodded along except for Ellen.
'I..drove for miles, just to find..you, and find my-self, all these screams, all these voi-ces in my-head, you gave me strength, gave me hope, for a life-time, and I never was satisfied-fied-fied-fied, time won't you save me, this time won't you save me, baby I can feel myself giving up, giving up, giving up, giving up.."
"That part right there! Stop it." Ellen said as they cut the music. We all turned to look at her as we saw nothing wrong with the way I sung.
"Your voice, it's too squeaky and high, try being softer Nicki. I need you to perfect this." She pleaded.
"No." I said simply, tired of all of her complaining.
"No?" She asked. Everyone looked at me for a response.
"No, I'm tired of this. I've been here since six this morning trying to perfect this song for you, and I realized something. I sung the song that way for a reason. It's called expressing the way you feel through your words. That song has a meaning and I wrote it at a time where I was in need of saving. I can't sing it any other way because that's the way my heart wants me to sing it. Whether you believe it or not, not everyone writes music just because they get paid for it, all of my songs have meanings and I'm going to sing it the way I want. I don't care about your thoughts because guess what? This song isn't for you, it's for me, and I'm going to sing it any way I fuckin please. Fire me if you want, you'll just be losing an important asset to your label for someone else to gain." I said shrugging.
"Like Wayne." Bey said. I looked at her confused as her eyes peered up from my phone.
"What?" I asked. Bey smiled as she stood up and gave me my phone. It was an email from Young Money's record label and they wanted me to become apart of their label.
"Is this real?" I asked. Ellen scuffed.
"No it's not real, nobody wants you, you're not even all that good." She waved us off. Bey's jaw clenched but I shook my head no tugging at her arm. She raised a brow and I only shook my head once again causing her to sigh.
"If you want the deal you have to be there by 8." She said.
"Wait, they're serious?" Ellen came over and snatched my phone out of my hand searching the screen frantically. I took my phone back and nodded.
"Bey can you-
"Yea, let's go." She said walking past me as she glared at Ellen. She grabbed my things for me as Ellen stood behind looking dumbfounded.
"You can't just walk out of here, you signed a contract!" She yelled.
"Actually, I didn't sign anything yet. You were too busy tryna get me in the booth, you didn't even care to bring it up. I'm glad you didn't." I smiled leaving. Bey chuckled as she held the door open for me and followed me out as we heard Ellen yell at her group.
"What are y'all looking at? Call kehlani and tell her today is her lucky day!" She yelled. Bey and I shook our heads as we left out of the building hand in hand.
She stopped and I stopped to look at her.
"What's wrong?" I asked. Bey came to stand face to face with me.
"I hope you didn't believe what she was saying. You're very talented and good at what you do. You're amazing and watching you give life to music like that in that booth was incredible. That song literally gave music a new meaning to me.
I don't want to see your talent go to waste because you don't think you're good enough because truth is, you're beyond good. I'm pretty sure what I see is the same thing she sees and she knows it. She just doesn't want to show it because of her image she's already portrayed herself to be." Beyonce said. I smiled brightly.
"Thank you. I really needed to hear that because for a second I was actually doubting myself." I said looking down. Bey frowned.
"Wow, you just gonna let your crown fall like that?" Bey asked as she bent down to pick up my imaginary crown. She stood up and lifted my chin placing the 'crown' back on my head.
"This is where it belongs. Keep your head up Nic, only desperate people look down." She said.
"But I am desperate, desperately in love with you." I said. Beyonce's eyes widen.
