California has always been an island, the land currently being populated by East Asians, Americans, Hispanics, Africans, and mixed descents.
A few things that the scenario doesn't talk about are the Asian immigrants and the Gold Rush. But I'm going to include that in this dimension as well, and see out linguists to mix languages into one. Like the Californians or the MLP: Mixed Worlds nation speaking a mix of Latin, English, and East Asian languages.
