It has been years since Emma and Harry last saw each other. He regretted letting her go, and she regretted not staying.
But when they meet again they find out they are not at all who they used to be.

"I can't believe you just did that," Emma smiled hugging Harry again. "You just got through the X Factor. You're going to be on the telly, you're going to be a popstar!"
Harry laughed. "I can't get so ahead of myself, there's still a lot to go."
"Yeah but you'll make it, and you're going to be all rich and famous and you're going to like, meet Katy Perry and Beyonce."
He laughed again. "Thank you for encouraging me, Em."
"Of course," She kissed his cheek. "I believe in you, I believe you can go so far."
His heart fluttered when she kissed him, his feelings for her never died down, he just chose to hide them better. He had wanted to tell her about how he felt, but as their friendship progressed he never knew the right time.
He didn't think there would ever be with Emma.
As they grew up together, the more he realised that if he ever did tell her about his feelings she could potentially see him in a different light. He didn't want that. And the fact that she could potentially not have those feelings for him hurt him more than never being able to tell her about his feelings in the first place.
Although Emma had encouraged Harry to do the X Factor, she never really thought about what would happen when he got through. Stumbling at boot camp, her heart broke during that phonecall when he cried to her, telling her he had failed, he was coming home and he'd see her later. She had cried when he rang back an hour later to say he was given another chance with some other guys in a group.
When he had to move to London, that was what had hurt Emma the most. She thought about telling him she loved him but she felt it was selfish to put that on him the day he left. She doubted he could ever see her that way anyway, so she kept quiet and watched him leave.
Most weekends she got to go down to London to support him, she had gotten to know Liam, Louis, Niall and Zayn; they were all so nice to her. Emma wasn't aware, but Harry had warned Niall specifically to keep his thoughts to himself about Emma, she wasn't available to him or any of them.
When they didn't win, Emma felt her heart break; and she saw Harry's break wide open there on stage. The minute filming stopped she rushed to him with Anne to console him, he was broken.
"My life is over, actually over." He cried. "I'll have to go to college and do nothing."
"Don't be silly," She hugged him tight. Usually when She hugged him tight he felt better. "You're going to go far in the music industry. You don't know what's next."
Wiping his tears he hugged her back. "Thanks for being here, Em. I couldn't have done this without you."
"I wouldn't be anywhere else, H. I'm always here for you."
