Kicking the dusty sand by the tips of my shoes, I swing myself back and forth on the old playground of Elmore Elementary. The squeaky hinges seemed awfully annoying, but I had continued on anyway.
As I overlooked the layout of the school, I noticed the new playground had already installed mulch. Mulch.. The worlds greatest enemy.
Getting up from the swing, and dusting sand off of my shoes, I pulled my crimson hood over my head and began heading back to my house.
Greeted by the smell of Apple Pumpkin and Cinnamon candles leaking through the door, I open it without hesitation.
"Mom?" I ask, ever so surprised. She looked at me with a bright smile. "I thought I'd make you something before your first day at Kilmridge Academy," She pauses, "..and I hope you like it."
Quickly stepping closer to the kitchen, I see a plethora of yummy foods scattered across the counter. Chicken Parmesan had been laid out first, sprinkled with paprika and pepper. Next was a green and purple salad, with dressings on the side; croutons, bacon bits, cheese, sliced ham, you name it. Along with that had been thin-cut garlic bread- home made, and it smelled like heaven. Last but not least, there had been a imposing chocolate cake, with some vanilla ice-cream on the side.
"This- This looks like heaven, mom. But it's so much; we can't eat it all by ourselves." By now I had already knew that my mom had invited somebody over, and I was quite curious too.
"The neighbors are coming to help us eat it all up. They just moved in yesterday- though their little girl is already going to collage," She smiles. "Though, I don't know which one."
I smile, though I hadn't known what to think about the situation. Should I be okay with this? Or should I be extremely mad? I don't like people around me- especially adults. Pfft, why am I even thinking about this? It's not like my mom set me up. I grab some plates and begin to set them up at the table.
Ding-Dong. I became nervous. Why AM I nervous? The door opened and I stayed hidden, and my mom exclaimed with excitement, "Welcome! Come on in." I hear greetings and thank you's, but I hear a quiet "Hello."
I smile, the voice gentle and sweet. I step out of the back of the dining table and come to greet them. "Oh! And here is my son, Aaron!" My mom exclaims. I notice three people.
There was a broad man, tall as ever. He had light blue hair and a blue beard- his skin as pale as snow. It was quite unique, and he had a gentle smile. Along side him was a short mixed lady with hair ever so short and brown, with a proper posture and a kind but spunky attitude.
Though one had caught my eye.
There, in front of me, between the two adults was a beautiful young lady. She had long black hair that reached the end of her back, and beautiful chocolate brown eyes. Her checks were naturally dusted with a light red, and she lit the room up as soon as I saw her.
"Nice to meet you, Aaron. My name is Sylvania," The lady pauses. "..and this is my daughter, Aphmau."
Aphmau. What a unique and beautiful name.
Aphmau started to speak. "H-Hi. It's nice to meet you, A-Aaron." She looked adorable, the way her smile came up. "It's nice to meet you too." I smile back.
"Alright! Let's go and dig in!" We all head to the table and prepare our plates with the smell of garlic and chicken flooding the air.

After doing the dishes and cleaning up the table, Aphmau and her family get ready to leave. "So, Aphmau, what collage will you be heading too?" My mom asks. She looks up at her and stops before leaving the house. "I'm going to Kilmridge Academy, mam'." My heart stops. "Really? Aaron is too." She looks up at me and smiles. Really smiles.
"I'll see you there then."

I continued packing up my things and stuffed them into the red suitcase that would soon hold my personal items for a straight 5 hours. I heard a knock at the door, and headed to open it.
My mom came in right before I reached the handle, and hugged me. "I can't believe my little boy is already heading to collage." I roll my eyes. "Mom, I'm not so little anymore- I'll be fine, I promise." I hug her tighter and she starts to hum a lullaby.
"No matter what happens, I will always be here for you, Aaron. That is my promise to you." The corner of my eyes begin to flood with tears. "I'll hold you on to that." The silence flooded the room, but it wasn't a bad one. It was one of grace and true feeling.
"I love you, Aaron. Don't go runnin' off without telling me goodbye in the morning. That car ride is 5 hours long-don't think I won't hesitate to call you throughout the whole thing."
"Okay, Okay. I'll tell you goodbye in the morning. But just in case.. Goodbye, Mom."
"Goodnight, honey." She leaves the room with haste and shuts it slowly. I hear her slowly walk away and her sobs follow. I know they weren't bad ones- they were happy ones.
And I know more than anything that tomorrow was going to be a good day.
