Pacific High School

Des Moines, WA, USA

It was like any ordinary Monday at our school, teenagers in the halls chatting, people eating during first lunch, while teachers instructing their fourth period classes. But everything suddenly changed when an unnatural looking figure approached the high school. Slowly limping in our direction, he seemed kind of pale, had ripped clothing, and was grunting something unintelligible. Mr. Pixton, a 9th grade science teacher, went to go see what the strange man was up to. When Mr. Pixton got to the mysterious man, the man charged, then instantly sank his teeth into the teacher's neck. In a panic countless students began to sprint away and scream. While the teacher fell to the ground, the unusual individual unexpectedly ran at another person and sank his teeth into him.

As I realized what was happening, I told my schoolmates to calm down. As myself, Anne, Jon, Paulina, Sokna (or Jonny), Renee, Danielle, and Rowena ran out of the school, we notice Mr. Pixton's corpse rise up and randomly attack James and kill him. Without any second thought, we ran down the road while a roar of terror erupted behind us.

"What the @&*% was that back there" Jonny exclaimed.

"Zombies," I stated calmly "didn't expect them so soon."

"Why the hell are you so calm about this Will?!" questioned Rowena.

"Because I have a plan" I reply back "Now are you coming with me or what."

"Alright, fine. What's your plan?" Rowena responded.

"We need a car in addition with some supplies" I announced. "So let's go find some in the nearby houses."

"So, where exactly are we?" Renee asked.

"It appears we are just few minutes away from the Highway" Jon explained.

As I surveyed my surroundings, I noticed a few stores, restaurants, houses and uniquely, a complete lack of people. In the parking lot of one of the numerous stores, there was a dude looking seriously frightened. The guy looked to be in his late thirties, with black hair and fair skin. As Paulina questioned the man about what happened, I was able to discern an unknown amount of blood trailing down his left arm.

"What's your name, sir?" Polina asked cautiously.

"Charles," he exclaimed immediately "but that aside, can you help me please?"

"So what happened to you?" Polina demanded fiercely, nevertheless benign.

"Someone attacked me." the man revealed.

While the suspicious man and Polina were conversing, I wandered into the story to investigate what happened. As I entered the store I noticed a few knocked over tables, clothes in every nook and cranny, and an unidentified blood splatter on the wall.

"What did you find?" Renee questioned.

"Nothing, yet," I responded "Although, I do suspect someone, or something is behind the counter over there."

As I slowly crept behind the counter to investigate the rustling, a woman jumped at me and attempted to attack me, but before she could, my companion bashed her head with a wood plank. As blood flowed out from the unknown woman's smashed in skull, I inspect her body for useful items, and noticed a wallet. I grab the object and search through it. I notice some loose change, some keys, and a driver's license with the name Julian Garcia. I keep the keys in my pocket as Renee drags her lifeless body to a corner of the store. As myself and Renee departed the shop, I noticed the man looking a lot calmer than before. As we approached our allies, Rowena advanced towards us at a rapid pace.

"Did you encounter anything of value?" the female inquired.

"Nah, only some random chick who attacked us and some keys." I responded.

"Oh, so are you guys okay?" she examined promptly.

"I think we're fine, especially after Renee here, shattered her skull with a wooden plank." I mentioned with a minuscule smirk crossing my face.

"So what now?" Rowena inquired.

"We have to find the car these keys go to," I responded, as I surveyed the parking lot.

I pressed the button on the keys, which activated the beeping of the blue mini van to our left. I slowly approached the car and unlocked it, making sure no one was inside of it. After confirming that the car was empty; I open the driver door to reveal a 9mm handgun in the passenger seat. I put the gun on my back pocket and called the others over.

"Hey guys, the car is empty." I shouted, grabbing their attention.

"Nice" Renee shouted back, running towards me.

As everyone approached the car, I inserted the keys and turned on the ignition. After one try, the car turned on. Everyone was slowly entering the car, with Renee in the passenger seat; Anne, Jon, and Amya in the middle, and Rowena, Paulina, and Johnny in the back. Charles sat in the trunk after his bleeding stopped and Paulina bandaged him.

We pulled out of the parking lot and turned down Pacific Highway S. As I was driving, Renee tried to find a working radio station. After findling for about a minute or two, she landed on a Jazz station playing Take Five. After a couple of seconds of silence, Jon let out a snicker.

"This is what's left?" he spoke with a slight laugh.

We drove for a little while. The sounds of jazz was drowning out any silent that would otherwise be left in the car. Most of us were still trying to process everything that had happened. Renee was slowly cleaning the blood off her cloths as I lay back and relax a bit.
