It was a drought.
Dragons in the SkyWing Kingdom were patched. They crawled around, moping and grumbling, their throats dry.
But the worst part was, Queen Amethyst was dying.
She lay in a bed made of sticks and grasses, weaved together by the dragons who were strong enough to work. It sunk under her weight, and she groaned.
Cloud, a bright red SkyWing, knelt at her side. "Is there anything we can do, my queen?" He whispered.
"Water," the queen hissed.
Cloud tilted his head. "There is no water. The drought, remember?"
For a horrifying moment, Amethyst's eyes went blank. Then she nodded. "Yes, the drought. I remember now."
Two guards sadly looked down on their Queen, as Cloud turned to them. "Is there any medicine that can soothe her cracked throat?" He asked.
"We can go check," a guard offered, spreading her wings and nudging the other guard with her tail.
"Thank you," Cloud breathed a sigh of relief. "I will go search for a cure as well. I'll be back soon," he added to the queen.
She blinked at him, and then slowly closed her eyes. Her belly rose and fell as she gracefully slept, in a world full of dreams.
All three dragons took off, in search of medicine. Cloud immediately searched the castle, only to find every room was littered with cobwebs and thirsty dragons. He had to admit, Cloud was thirsty, too, but he had the strength to go on.
To go on- for his queen.
Cloud was busy searching through piles of deserted items, when the female guard reached her side. "I found something!"
The red dragon watched as she held out a leaf. "I found it by the river," the guard said excitedly. "There must be some water sucked up in it. Now, come on! We have to give it to Queen Amethyst!"
Once again they were flying, back towards the queen's room in a tower at the top of the castle. Cloud set down the medicine, and watched the queen for a moment.
But that was all it took for him to realize her chest was still, and her eyes were glazed and lifeless.
Wassup dudessssss!
