I'd been working for the FBI for three years when out of the blue, I was recommended to work at the BAU. I stared at my resume for two weeks, wondering if I should even send it over to SSA Hotchner who was looking to hire a new member to his team.
I was told Agent Hotchner and his team were more like a family; family wasn't my forte. I didn't quite fit into them well enough, in my opinion. For one, I'm an orphan. For another, I was abused by both of my adoptive parents. Despite all of that, I found myself attending an interview with Agent Aaron Hotchner, a man known for his daunting seriousness and amazing work in the field.
I stood in the BAU headquarters in Quantico, Virginia, holding a copy of my resume in my hands as if my life depended on it. Ahead of me were three agents who worked in various areas of the FBI, each looking quite qualified to work in the BAU. Standing at 6 ' 2'' in the doorway to his office was Aaron Hotchner himself. His stern hazel-eyed gaze traveled directly to me. I held his gaze while all the others looked away, too intimidated to stare back like I did.
After two hours of watching people walk out of his office with disappointed expressions, I shakily walked in upon hearing, "Next."
With my heart racing, I stood directly in front of SSA Hotchner's large, mahogany desk that was littered with various files.  I could see mine in the middle of the sea of papers and Manila folders. "Agent Kristina Bailey, I'm SSA Aaron Hotchner. Please, take a seat." He gestured to a small black chair in front of the desk.
I sank into the seat, trying to read him. Clearly the other interviews had gone horribly. The last one seemed to have frustrated him to the brim, for his eyebrows were furrowed and the way he had his fist clenched tightly atop the desk meant he was trying to keep himself composed. "I see you've got three PHDs and one Bachelors. You double majored in college with Sociology and Criminal Psychology. You also minored in Literature, I see. Your resume is quite impressive, Agent Bailey. I've read your resume most of all and it's safe to say you're by far the best candidate thus far," He told me.
I managed a small, confident smile. "Thank you, sir." I nodded appreciatively.
"Welcome to the team, Agent Bailey. I'm quite impressed by your work in the field and look forward to seeing it firsthand. We've been needing another member for awhile, especially with this new case we've just received. You start now." He stood, shaking my hand professionally.
Relief washed over me. "Thank you, sir. You won't regret it." I grinned.
After the interview ended, the job began. I was ushered into the conference room where five people stood waiting for Hotchner and I to come in. A woman with long blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and a radiant smile stood at the front of the group. From where I stood, I could read her badge: Agent Jennifer Jareau. Standing in front of the screen was a somewhat short woman with shoulder-length blonde, curly hair and black rectangular glasses over her dark brown eyes. The first thing I thought when I saw her was colorful. She was the embodiment of all things colorful and cheerful. From the cobalt blue dress she wore to the Hello Kitty pen in her hand, I knew she was as pure as they come.
Behind Agent Jareau was a tall, heavily muscled man with bronzed skin and chocolate colored eyes. He had light stubble on his jawline and chin. "I'm Agent Derek Morgan," he introduced himself confidently.
An Italian man with short black hair and a short black beard waved to me beside him. His eyes were one shade lighter than Morgan's, I noticed. "I'm Agent Rossi," He waved.
To the left of Rossi was a woman with strength radiating from her. I could tell she'd been through hell and back. Her jet black hair was pulled into a low ponytail and her bangs hung almost into her brown eyes. This was Agent Prentiss, according to her badge.
All the way in the back stood a tall, lanky man with light brown hair that nearly reached his shoulders. He had hazel eyes that looked intensely in my direction and I desperately wished to know his name.
"Hello, everyone. I'm Agent Kristina Bailey," I introduced myself.
Hotchner named those who didn't introduce themselves, including the man in the back. His name was Dr. Spencer Reid. Upon being introduced, he gave a little wave and a small smile. "Alright, Garcia. Go ahead." Hotchner turned to the woman in front of the screen who held a remote in her hand.
"Nice to see a new face!" She beamed at me.
"The case, Penelope." Hotchner reminded her.
Garcia laughed nervously. "Right," she sighed, "Two weeks ago in Bentonville, Arkansas, a body of a thirty-year old woman was found on the shore of Beaver Lake with blunt force trauma to the back of her head and her...her heart was missing," Garcia shuddered. "Why do my pretty eyes have to see this stuff..." She whined.
"Garcia." Agent Hotchner said in a warning tone.
She winced. "Sorry, sir. Anyways, the woman's name was Farah McDonald, brunette with green eyes," she pressed a button on the remote and a different victim popped up on the screen. "This is Holly Withers, thirty-three. She was found two days ago on the shore of Lake Ann in Bella Vista, Arkansas. She was found exactly the same. She had blonde hair and gray eyes. The Benton County police have called us in as of today." Garcia explained.
I was a mixture between the two women; dark blonde with green eyes. My hair was shoulder length, much like the first victim's. From what I could tell, the UNSUB didn't care about his victims, for they'd been thrown onto the shore like garbage. Their clothes were blood encrusted and mud-streaked; if he cared, he would have at least changed their outfits.
Agent Rossi cleared his throat. "Perhaps the removal of their hearts portrays how the UNSUB got his heart broken by a woman. Maybe he's got a low self-esteem and gets rejected a lot." He suggested.
    The room agreed with nods.
Prentiss chimed in. "There has to be a significance about the lakes—especially if he didn't use the water to get rid of possible evidence since the women were clearly dry."
I decided to offer some input. "He obviously doesn't care about the victims and the brutality of their wounds may suggest these killings were personal," I looked to each of them to see if they agreed.
Hotchner nodded with approval and Agent Jareau smiled at me. So far so good.
"Alright, wheels up in thirty, everyone." Agent Hotchner exited the room.
Morgan walked over to me and stuck out his hand, smiling widely. "Nice to meet you, Agent Bailey," His voice was nice and smooth. "I've heard a lot about you." He patted my shoulder as he swaggered out the door.
Agent Jareau was next to come over. "Hi, there. Please call me JJ. It's so great to have another woman on the team! Now us ladies aren't outnumbered." She winked before following Morgan soon after.
Rossi and Prentiss merely smiled before exiting the room. I moved to follow when I realized Dr. Reid still stood packing up his things, placing them inside a men's satchel.
He was the last to stop in front of me. Our eyes met and for a moment my wall of confidence fell. "Your eyes are green," he pointed out. "You know, only two percent of the population has green eyes. You're special." Reid hurried out as soon as he finished speaking.

Hi, readers! I used to have a Wattpad, but I was very young and my stories were terrible! I'm trying very hard to write good quality fanfics and perhaps an original, who knows! I'm in love with Dr. Reid and Matthew Gray Gubler and have been for a long time! My love for the BAU is what helps me write Crime-related stories. Feel free to comment, but please be nice! :)
