You step out of your door on onto the porch, inhaling the crisp fall day. The calls of sheep and cows reach you from out in your fields, and its music to your ears. Amidst that music, another sound appears, one of footsteps on the path up to your house.
You raise a hand in greeting towards the newcomer. "Heya, Doctor!" You smile brightly at Harvey as he trods up your porch steps. "Beautiful day, huh? Thanks for making a house call. I would have come to the clinic, but I was a bit too busy."
"And I'm not?"
The harsh reply, so out of character for the gentle and soft-spoken doctor, startles the smile off your face. "Oh... Uh, yes, of course you are." you stammer. Unsure of what to do, you summon another smile and sweep a hand towards the door. "Um, please, come inside!"
The two of you enter the house. You head over to the kitchen. "Coffee?" You call back over your shoulder.
"No thank you."
Unease grips your chest. Harvey, decline coffee? Something must be wrong.
Harvey follows you into the kitchen, cold expression still on his face. He sets his medical bag down on the counter.
"So, hows business lately, Doc? Pretty busy with vaccinations this season, I bet." you start the coffee maker and grab a mug from the cupboard.
"Busy, yes. Everyone's busy during the fall." Harvey opens the black bag. "Lean over the table and take down your pants."
You almost drop the mug on the floor. Recovering it before it falls, you hold it tightly in both hands. "What?"
"I said," Harvey pulls a couple of vials out of the medical bag, still not looking at you. He hadn't looked at you since entering the house. "Lean over the table and take down your pants."
You set the mug carefully on the counter and nervously go about finding the sugar tin. "I-is that really necessary? It's just a vaccination. Don't those usually go in your arm?"
Harvey extracts a syringe from his bag and holds it up, finally looking in your direction. "You want me to put this in your arm?"
If you'd still been holding your mug, you definitely would have dropped it. The needle looked like the kind the vet would use on a cow. Ok, maybe not, but still. You hadn't seen a syringe that big since...well, ever. You didn't even know Harvey had that kind of equipment.
"I don't want it to go in any part of me..." You mutter.
"Just do what I say."
Harvey was scaring you a little bit today. He seemed to be in a bad mood. You decide to do what he asked. "O-kay..."
You shuffle over to the kitchen table. You glance at Harvey, but he's looking in his bag again. Taking a breath to steel yourself, you undo your pants and push them down to just under the curve of your rear. Silently complaining about your current situation, you brace one hand on the table top, using the other to keep your pants up.
"Elbows on the table."
You whip your head around to glare at the doctor, but he's filling up the syringe. You really don't want to look at that, so you turn back around and lower yourself to your elbows, grumbling under your breath.
After a long minute, where you contemplated what you must look like at the moment, you feel Harvey step over to your side. You feel the hem of your shirt --the only thing that had been protecting your decency-- be lifted to the small of your back. As you mentally bemoan that fact, a sudden smack to your posterior makes you jump. Before you can really react to the smack, a few more follow it.
