"Nervous, Doctor?"
"Of course. It's a highly experimental weapon, General, and you decide that we test it before it's ready and entrusting it to one so young." Answered the skinny man named Roe.
From atop his horse General Adkins studied the ill suited war skeleton. "If there is any time in this war to experiment, it is now. At the beginning."
On the hill, soldiers stood readying themselves for the charge, Dr Roe held his binoculars looking down into the chaotic flow of battle. "But General, if Greydon falls the enemy might have a chance to steal it." He said, eyes glued to the action below.
Sword strokes meshed together in their deadly dance.
"When I'm done with ya, I'm taking that fancy sword for myself!"
Greydon kept up easily with the man that had run up to him and called himself general in the frenzy. The heavily built man was colossal with an axe to match. The power delivered through each swing was enough to knock a cannon sideways. Fortunately angling the blade prevented Greydon from receiving the full impact of the multiple, heavy blows that rained down in him.
"Saving your breath!" Replied the enemy general,"Coward!"
They continued this way for sometime, until Greydon saw his chance. Deflecting one last blow from from the sluggishly growing giant, Greydon ran towards the mass of soldiers, disrupting a few fights and leaving them bewildered. Until the giant started chasing him, throwing them apart.
"Damn you! Get back! You don't run from Phem!" General Phem yelled after Greydon.
Greydon ran. Sword banging against his leg in its sheath. Scattering more soldiers from their skirmishes as Phem followed his trail of confused soldiers.
Finally he found what he was looking for. A clear patch of land. Barren of soldiers fighting. Filled with lush tall grass and beautiful flowers of varying vibrant colors.
When Phem caught up, he couldn't see Greydon.
"Nice place, don't you think?" Came his hidden voice.
The giant was startled and out of breath, searching for his enemy. "Where are you coward!" His head whipped from side to side.
"Is 'coward' the only insult you you know? Why are you fighting?"
The wind obscured the direction Greydon's voice was coming from. Further frustrating Phem to yell louder. "Come out you coward! I fight for glory!"
"Shame seeing you'll die here."
Bang! Phem felt a blow straight to his stomach. Warmth spread downwards. His hand came away glistening crimson. "...coward..." The last thing he saw was Greydon's flat topped sword smoking out of the ground.
The young commander rose from where he laid in the grass twenty feet away from the fallen Phem. "Even while dying, 'coward was the only insult you could think of."
He replaced this sword back on his back and loosened the one at his side. "Guess I have some free time."
