Chapter Two

"This is where were living" I said, staring at the run down peice of shit of a cabin in the middle of Missouri, Montana. "Well if I wasn't worried about being eaten by wild animals, I certainly am now" I stated quite bluntly.

I heard my mother laugh , and felt her hand pat me on the back before she moved forward towards the cabin of demise. "Hunny you aren't going to be eaten, stop worrying!" she said and opened the door. It creaked from old age, even the floor boards creeked. I cringed from the sound. Yep were dead.

I stepped into the cabin and took a look around, cob webs everywhere, a hole here and  there in the walls and floors. Looking up to the ceiling, I could see holes there too. "This place looks unlivable" I muttered to myself, but my mother heard it anyway.

"Not unlivable, more like a project in the making" she said placing a box on the floor in the cabin. It was small, not much to look at about 5 rooms. Kitchen, Living area, 2 bedrooms, and a tiny bathroom. Yvette whipped her hand across her forhead. "But despite the hard work, and the fact that you have school and I have to work, I think we can do it!" she said with a smile on her face. I couldn't help but shake my head at her enthusiasm.

"so where exactly is this place located?" I stated looking at her, while she opened the box. "Bearpaw Mountains" she said as she rummaged thru the contents. "oh" I said taking another look at the room. Bear paw mountains huh, sounds......wild.

"Brian, stop looking, and help me carry in the stuff" she said lifting another box, that seemed reletively heavy.

"alright" I said walking towards the uhaul.

After a few hours of unloading the truck, I wiped my hand across my forehead removing the sweat that settled there. I plopped down on the couch with a huge thump, the dust from the cabin floor, puffed up in a cloud of smoke. I wrinkled my nose and whipped my hand across my jeans.

I felt dirty, I needed a shower.

Leaning my head back and looking up at the ceiling, I called out "hey mum does the shower even work?" waiting for an answer I studied the wood. It was old, looked almost like it was rotting. She wasn't kidding when she said this would be a project. "I don't think so hun, you can check" I heard her shout from the other room.

I got up and headed to the area where the bathroom should be. I walked in and stopped dead in my tracks. Stepping foreward in a quick motion, I walked up to the whole in the floor and looked down. My eyes widened and my nose crinkled. Oh hell no. That is not what I think it is. A "duty" hole.

Scrunching my nose up in disgust I turn to the rusted bathtub. It looks like you could catch rabies on it; if that was even possible. Which knowing anything it's impossible;  having an over imagination when it comes to catching a deadly disease, does that to you. I reached out and turned the knobs, they creeked as they turned. Surprise, surprise; nothing, not a single drop! Just a bunch of creaking coming from the piping. Sighing I stood up straight and marched right out to my mother.

"None of the piping works, so no bath and we have a duty whole" he said staring at his mother, folding his arms and taking his childish must have his way stance.

"Oh dear" she said moving her hand to cover her mouth "will have to call in a plumer tomorrow" she said and she turned back to unpacking the kitchen boxes.

"I'd like to scrap off some of this crime" I said pulling my shirt away and scrunching my nose up in disgust again. She chuckled and pointed out the so called 'window'.

"There's a river jsut about five minutes from here, It'll be cold but if u wanna get cleaned that's where you'll have to do it" I just stared at her. Was she being serious or was she just fucking with me completely.

I sighed and walked towards the door "Alright if I'm not back by morning, Im in the woods either lost or I've been dragged off by wolves" I said as I waved casually above my head. "Be sure to bring a flashlight with you, and becareful!" she said shouting from the other room. Picking up my keys from the coffee table in the so called sitting room, I walked out the front door.

Turning on the small flashlight, I squinted. The small flashlight didn't give off much light. I don't see why it should, it was from the dollar store after all. I followed the path at the back of the rundown cottage.

I sighed as I turned around in a circle, looking at trees, bushes and rocks. I've been walking for the past Twenty minutes and still haven't found the river.  I shoulda found it fifteen minutes ago according to my mother.  I was completely lost. SO a reality check was in order.

I am going to die out here.

Yep. I was a dead man walking in a circle. Sighing I kicked a rock at a couple of bushes to the left of me, stuffing my hands in my pockets I looked up at the night sky. So far the only good thing about this place was the amazing view of the night sky, you could see the stars that weren't being blocked by the city light. For a moment I figured I could live with just this.

I smiled to myself, but just as quick as that smile came it fell. Something moved behind me. How did I know? Well that would be from the massive twig snap. I turned around slowly, I could feel my eyes bulging out of my head. My body began to shake a little with the anticipation of what I'll find.

I stopped short and looked at the ground with an upturned eyebrow. What the hell was it? I shined the light on it. It was like a medium sized cat, fat, kinda cute too, in a cuddly way. It was grey, with rings on the tail. It also had this black fure around the eyes, like it was a burgular.  I couldn't help myself from my next action. I aw-ed. "well aren't you just the cutest little creature I've never seen in my life" I said in a baby like tone. I stepped towards it, leaning down a bit, too look smaller so I wouldn't frighten it.

WORST. IDEA. I. EVER. HAD!

The moment I went to touch it; the furball pulled back its upper lip and snarled, salivia dripping from its sharp looking teeth. The growel that eminated from the throat was....well there are no words to describe it. In that split second when I felt afraid the SOB lunged at me. With a screech, worthy of any female; I ran like a bat out of hell.

I wasn't watching where I was going.  I slammed into something hard and fell on my ass. "Ow" I mumbled to myself.  Squeezing my eyes shut I rubbed the corner of my hip. What did I hit? Looking up from my position on the floor my eyes widened.

I hit a man.

He was something else entirely.
