I walked to the car without a second glance behind me at the pack house with blood covering the steps. With bodies everywhere, it made it very difficult for the car to navigate the grounds. Goddess, there was so much death and pain, and greif. It was supposedly a "random attack." But it wasn't, and the only person to know what truly happened to Blood Howler Pack, was me.
I was stepping over my dead pack mates, in what world is that supposed to happen. Sadly, I unknowingly stepped on someone. It was Alec, my mate who had (with good reason) rejected me. The alphas son. He was laying there, eyes open, unshed tears in his eyes. He said only whimps cried, he must've been terrified. As I looked down upon him, I saw him clutching something in his hand. It was my necklace. The only thing I had left of my mother. He had taken it because I was an omega and didn't get nice things. I didn't earn it.
I knew I loved him. He was my soul mate, my other half. I'll always remember him. The worst part is, I'll never be able to forget this moment, right here, right now. I'll always remember his cold, lifeless body. I bent down, kissed his forehead, and closed his eyes. I removed the necklace from his hold, and let the silent, unshed, treterous, tears flow down my cheeks.
My life, my home, its all dead, and its all my fault.
Three Months Later
What do you think happens to wolves with no packs. Oh really, you don't know? Well let me explain. I'm a "rogue." I'm living with my cousin, in another packs territory. Do you know how hard it is to avoid an alpha doing territory checks, and coming over to your cousins house to check up on her because her parents are dead? Well I do. Its....challenging.
"J.R, get up. We're going to alpha." My cousin Kira shouted trying to get me out of bed. No, I'm not worried, she's threatened me with this before. Apparently I'm disobedient and need to be taught a lesson.
"Um, I don't exactly feel like dying today, so no thank you." I said, my voice coming out muffled by my pillow.
"Did I ask. I don't think so. I told you. Get up." Wow. Her voice seemed stern. This is new.
I lifted my head up and really looked at her. She was fuming. How on earth am I going to survive an angry Kira.
"Really Kira. You want to go to the alpha and face consequences. Because I definitely don't. I'm the last surviving member of Blood Howler Pack. I'm not ready to change that." By the end of that, I was full on crying. The truth was, I was only crying to put on a show.
I can't feel any sadness. Only anger. I wasn't ready to be the last one; that part was true. The rest, not so much.
"Look J, I'm sorry. I can't keep lying to alpha. Do you remember how much you adored Alpha Christian?"
"Of course I do. He was like a king to me."
"See that's how-"
"But you see in reality, he's dead. He wasn't a king. He was a low life jerk who deserved his death."
The truth was - no matter how hurtful and disappointing it may truly be - is that he was responsible for five hundred and forty-two deaths. He was no hero, he was the villain.
"Jennifer. Get your lazy butt up and get dressed. We're going to alpha, no questions asked." She turned around and left me there to think.
Was I really ready for this? To be a member of a different pack than the one I was raised in.
