Chapter 3

Rebbecca's POV

"Bing" I hear the doorbell ring. I glanced in the mirror, looking at the image. I could see why Allison was so scared and worried for me.For the first time I notice how skinny I really was. Tearing myself away from the mirror I went downstairs to the door.

When I got there, I saw Allison, my mom inviting her in. My mom was half asleep, not realizing how she looked. I gasped at her, her hair all tangled full of leaves and dirt, her right arm, swollen, and cut up. Crusted blood at the edge of her lips.

"What happened?" I asked her out of breath, scared of what she might reply. She just shook her saying nothing. Not daring to look me in the eyes. I led her upstairs to my bedroom, before my mom could see anything else.

~Allison's POV

As we went up Rebbecca's stairs, my mind was quickly trying to think of excuses to tell her. I shut the door behind us, and sat down at her bed.

"What the heck happened to you!" Rebbecca screamed at me. I could see the panic in her eyes. Part of me wanted to tell her the truth, to tell her how unwanted I've felt my whole life, how I just wanted someone to say they loved me.

To not be hurt and so alone.

To have someone other than my mom to love me.

To trust.

The other part said no. I could lose her, she's so popular, she could easily decide she didn't want to deal with me and my problems.

"Nothing, I uh, fell off my bike."  I said with fake laughter, hoping she wouldn't notice my pain.  She narrowed her eyes at me, her mouth going into a thin line.

"Yeah right, now what really happened?" she asked obviously getting angry.

"Fine, I uh, fell down the stairs, you know how clumsy I am!" I said praying she would drop the subject.

"No you didn't! Just tell me the truth and enough with the excuses!" I looked away, not sure how to respond. She came over and put a hand on my shoulder.

"you can trust me." she said softly. That's when I snapped, every part of me ticking with anger.

"Trust? Trust you? Yeah since you obviously trusted me with you little weight problem!" I shot back. Every part of me was tense. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. She backed off, hurt flashed her eyes, then anger quickly took over.

"You have no idea what I'm going through!" she hissed back.

"I have no idea? Try getting beaten everyday! Scared, wondering if it's your last day to live, wondering if you will ever find someone who loves you!" I screamed back at her through my sobs. That's it, I told her, I couldn't hold it in anymore. I collapsed on the floor, shaking and crying. Wanting everything to end, to not feel pain anymore.

~Rebbecca's POV

I fell to the floor next to her. I was shocked she didn't tell me before. It all made sense now, her always hurt, timid, scared of her own shadow.

Always with black eyes, scars, bruises.  She said she was clumsy but she played every sport possible, she was the opposite of clumsy! She needed me now more than ever. I hugged her and told her I was sorry. As if she understood what I meant, and not wanting to go into further detail, she said she was sorry too, we sat there, sitting in each others arms, crying until we fell asleep.
