Containment

My eyes open as I feel cold hands moving around my body. I am unable to speak, but I listen to the things around me. I feel as if I have just woken up from a dream. My limbs were not moving, the walls and ceiling around me was pure white, without a speck of dirt.

"This one is ready for containment." one of them say as I feel myself begin to move. Bright things, I do not know what they are, flash above me in a steady pattern. I look to one of the beings beside me, it looks down on me, then frowns.

"It's awake." The words come out of its mouth, smoothly, it was calm. I look back up at the flashing lights. I was not able to move my head, nor the rest of my body for that matter. I could hear the sound of more beings moving around me, but I could not see them.

"What number is this one?" another being asks from my side. The other answers, "1375M." The two turn me, and we begin to go down, what I assume is a hallway, that was quieter than where we were. I was able to move my eyes and watch the wall on my left side, it was lined with doors, each one with a window at the top, so that someone can look in. I watch and read each door, they all had numbers and one letter at the end, 1265M...1266F....1267F....1268M. Each one ended in either an M or an F. I thought about what that meant, but I could not think clearly.

The numbers soon change into the 1300's and I remember my number, 1375M. The numbers grow higher and higher, and eventually we turn into another hallway, finding the 1370's. We come to a stop in front of a pure white door, identical to the rest. The being to my left walks forwards and hold out a small square card and holds it over a spot on the door.

The door beeps, then turns green as it slides open, slowly. The being returns to my side, and helps the other push me into the small room. The door closes behind us, then the cold hands that first woke me up returned.

They placed one hand under my head, and the rest under my back, and hoist me up. My body feels heavy, my skin is almost pure white. The two beings then place hands under my legs. They pick me up off the surface that I was on, then lay me down on a more comfortable one. My head seems to sink into a soft cushion, a pillow I think. and the rest of my body rests on top of a mattress.

My body was uncovered, my white skin matching the fabric of the small bed, at least I think that is what it is called. Little bumps were forming over my skin, I was beginning to feel...cold.

"Looks like his body is waking up, get the monitors, and it's robe." On with a mass of golden hair says. The other, with hardly any gray hair remaining, nods and turns to the wall opposite of me. He places his hand on it, and a panel opens, revealing a compartment filled with various medical items, and a single white nursing gown. He grabs it and walks back over to me, then begins to lift up my right arm, pulling a sleeve over it. He does the same on my left side, then the gown seems to do the rest, pulling itself tightly around my waist, and fusing together against my back.

"And the monitors, Doctor Mason." Says the blond one. Doctor Mason nods, and walks over, picking up five cords, on each end was a round sticker with a small needle jutting out on the bottom side, each one a different color. Green, red, yellow, blue, and purple. A small amount of... fear I think, rises up within me.

"Here, Jacobsen." Doctor Mason says, handing him the cords. I did not notice, but the cords seemed to be attached to the ceiling, moving with the doctors. Jacobsen takes the cords, then leans over me. He takes the green cord, peels off a thin plastic layer that was covering the glue on the sticker, then places a cold hand on the left side of my neck. It sends chills around my body, making me shiver slightly.

He then pushed the sicker down, and my eyes squeeze shut as I feel the small needle pierce my skin. He does the same thing with the red corn, but on my left side. He then places the yellow and blue on my two wrists, and the purple right over my heart. The two then begin to converse as they listen to the subtle beeps coming from the newly applied monitors.

"So, why did we need another 1375M?" Jacobsen asks. Doctor Mason sighed and sat down on the bed at my feet, checked the monitors, then replied. "It escaped, he was smarter than all the others from his class. He studied us for a change. It must have overheard us talking about how he was paid for, going to be shipped out for use the next night. That day he just... disappeared." The older man takes in a sad breath, then continues, "Like I said, he was the best we have ever created, maybe to smart. The strangest thing was, when we found his containment room empty, not a thing was moved, nothing missing, even his gown. He had just... folded it up neatly and left it on his bed."

The monitors beep, once louder than the rest. The loud shrill noise seemed to shock them out of their conversation. Doctor Mason leans over me and looks me in the eyes, his eyes flick over to the screen that had appeared on the wall beside my head.

"It looks good, we better go," He stands and brushed himself off, before pushing a button, "we have 13 more to contain before we can go home, and today is my last day."

Jacobsen's face turns to disappointment, "I didn't know that," They then walk out of the room together, leaving me alone with the cords still attached.

I began to wonder what the button does that Doctor Mason pushed, just as a subtle buzzing sound filled the room. I look above me and watch as the cords hanging above me start to disappear into the ceiling. I squeezed my eyes shut again as the stickers pull off, and the needles are torn out of my skin.

I open my eyes again, and look at the ceiling. The cords were gone, and a slight tingling sensation was moving throughout my body. I lay there, completely still in the peaceful silence. A hissing sound comes to my ears, and a sweet smell fills the room. My eyelids become heavy, my heart slows, and before I knew it I was in a deep sleep.
