2. Take My Hand (Poem)

Take my hand and I promise I'll make this easy for you,
So easy, in fact,
That you'll forget the word and the words and the worries.
You won't remember existence
I'll let you just be.

Take my hand and you only need look in my eyes for the answers,
All the unsaid glory, damned up, waiting
To burst out from the swollen banks
You can see for yourself-
Just a look will suffice if you check in the right place.

Take my hand and trust that I know
Just a few simple truths about most things.
Give me space and air and life enough to share it.
I can't explain how
But I can teach you enough about myself that you can believe me.

Take my hand and guide me to a chair,
Show me how to sit and go blank.
I can see the sunset from there
But my eyes are a contrast
And they want more than what this vista can bestow.

Take my hand for the final time,
Please look properly into my eyes:
It's all there, everything you need,
All the ways to get us through.
Every crystalline memory and rain-hewn tear
Each fleck of joy and hatred
Is there to tell you a story
If you just take my hand.
