The Man

(Ski's P.O.V)

        Family is the most important thing right? Sharing laughs, and love scattered around the room. I smile just thinking about what I used to do back home. It all change because of one fact: I got pregnant. Mother told me 'You were raised the right way. But you go out and do  this to me!? To us.. All because you fell in love with a worthless piece of shit?! Get out of my house.'

        I left. Never came back and made my life with my kid. Aaron, and I moved to San Diego where I got my job. I worked hard to see my son and to built up my skills to become someone greater. Here I am, in New York working for the new job I got two years ago.

        I did it all while raising my boy. Who is now 7.

          Walking down the hallway seeing interns typing on their computers, I go to my office. Seeing if there was anything new to do. As I walked up to my desk I hear the speakers say, "Detective Douglass, come to Chief's West office. Detective Douglass, come to Chief's West office." I wonder what he wants. I grabbed my jacket, and headed for the lift.

        I pressed the button number '2', and leaned back on the rail. Silence filled the elevator, as it traveled up. It opened and I walked out and turned right. My heels clicking on the glass floor. Soon enough I reached his office, on his door displayed 'Chief West'. I opened the door to find him typing on the computer.

        "Ski, how are you darlin'?" he said in his thick, southern voice, and signaling for me to sit down. I walked to the chair to sit down. "Good, I'm fine." I said, with a small smile. "Well that is good, sugar. How's the little fella?" he asked, concerned. "Aaron is fine. Just a little shaken up from what happened yesterday." I replied, twiddling my fingers.

          "You have to be more careful darlin', we thought we lost you." he said sincerely. I sighed heavily, as the anxiety creeps up my spine. "I fine aren't I? Anyway what did you call me in for?" I asked, changing the subject. "Yes, I'm just talkin'  your ear off. You have been assigned a important assignment, in 2 weeks. We trust you to handle this case. I wondered if you would take it."

        I ponder for a moment, what about Ace? I don't want to upset him. He already has had a bunch on his shoulder. What about me? I will just leave him here for god knows how long. "I have two questions Chief." I told him. "Ask away sugar." he stated, and leaned back in his chair. "How long is this case?" I asked, locking my eyes with his.

      "It depends on how long you take to solve the case." he replied looking up at the clock. "And will I be able to take Ace? I don't want to leave him alone, and he is having a pretty b---" I rambled, before I got cut off. "Yes sugar, you can take Ace with you." he smiled. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. "Then yes I will take it." I smiled, as his eyes beamed with delight. "Okay! I'll give you more information tomorrow." he smiled.

      I got up and exited his office. I walked back to the lift, and pressed '1'. I sighed as the silence inched around. I walked out, and went to my office. It was time to end my shift, I grabbed my phone, purse, and jacket. I close my office door, and locked it up. I waved goodbye to one of my interns and left the office.

       I walked up to my White SUV, and put my phone in the head board, my jacket in the backseat along with my purse. Then hopped into the drivers seat. I started the ignition, to go get my little man. I pulled out of the parking lot and drove to the school. Five minutes later, I pulled up to Saint Nicks Talent School. I got in the pick up line, and saw Ace walking over to the car.

        I opened the door for him to come in, he closed it back and put his seatbelt on. "Hey Ace." I said kissing his forehead, then started to drive off. "hey mum." he said looking at me. "What's wrong little buddy?" I asked concerned, stopping on a red light. "I fell today in gym." he said, pointing at his arm. "It's okay, Ace. Little bug." I smiled tickling him. He laughed, and beg me to stop, so I did. I started to drive again, as he starred out the window.

        "Mum? When will I be able to go to work with you?" he asked. I looked off at him, then back at the road. "Ace, it's very soon. I have a new case and Stan said you can go." I said with a smile. "Really!?" he jumped up with excitement. "Yes, Ace." I laughed, as he fist pumped in the air. I pulled up to our house. (Picture of their house is up there)

        "Ace go take a bath, I'll make us some dinner okay bud?" I told him, and he left to go in the house. I grabbed my stuff from the car and walked into the house closing the door. I set my things down, and started to make some nachos. I grabbed Cheese, Tortilla chips, and some meat. As I started to seasoned the meat, the phone rang. I wiped my hand on the hand towel and walked to the house phone.

        "Ace make sure you do your homework!" I said. I picked up the phone and answered it. "Hello?" I questioned. No one rarely called me. "Yes, Ski? It's me Miles." I man said through the phone.

       I froze, Miles? No, this can't be happening. "Oh. Hey M..Miles..." I said barley above a whisper. "Hey? Anyway you need to come to back to Springs. It your Father." he said seriously. "What happened? So he okay?" I fired back. "I don't know, he had a heart attack. Just come home." he said, and with that he hanged up.

        "Daddy..." I whispered. He can't go. I heard footsteps running down the stairs. I wiped tears from under my eyes. "Mum! I'm hungryyyyyy!" he complained. "Okay Ace, let me finish cooking." I chuckled. "Okay! Can I watch Thor??" he asked, a excitement beamed his eyes. "How about this, you turn on the movie I finish the nachos and we eat living room?" I said, and I booped his nose.

                "Yeah!" he said, and ran off. I love being a mum.
