I watched the waves hit the rocks which was quite relaxing. I hear you walking behind me. I don't turn around.
"Pretty, isn't it?"
"What do you want?" I almost laugh. I considered it for a moment. I think you noticed.
"Serenity." A sigh follows. Your gray eyes go beautifully with the waters. I want to hug you or envelope you in a kiss. I don't. So many "almost"s follow us.
We don't look at each other but I notice you sit down out of the corner of my eye. I do, too.
"I'm sorry." A hushed voice escapes your lips.
"Don't be."
"Why not? I have really messed your life up." You laugh. My cheeks flush pink even though they shouldn't.
"I can't bring myself to resent you. I don't know why, but I just can't." The waves lap as a background to our quiet voices.
"Strange,"
"We're strange." I say. A nod is your reply.
"You're right," you say. "So strange."
