At the best, the black coffee

A man whose name was John sent a message to a woman by mobile phone. Her name was Lucy. They were a couple few months ago but they broke up. The woman wasn't sure about seeing him because she was still in love.

She was thinking about it for a long time but finally she accepted. They dated that weekend, on Saturday. It was a cold and rainy day. Lightning bolts could be heard. They met at half past five in a coffee shop near Lucy's house. They used to have breakfast there every day, when they were in love.

She was punctual. She was looking around but she didn't find him, so she decided to sit down and wait for him. She was a little bit nervous.

Fifteen minutes later, he arrived. Lucy was trembling. They greeted each other with two kisses and a hug. He apologized for being late because he had a problem with his car.

They started speaking and they ordered the same food as they used to eat, a coffee and a piece of carrot cake for Lucy and another coffee and a piece of cheese cake for John.

John accomplished her by telling her she looked beautiful with an intense look.

Lucy blushed, she couldn't help it. Suddenly she started to remember all the beautiful times they had spent together. She longed for his company so much.

Then he confessed he had missed her and he wanted to know if there was a chance to get back together.

Lucy couldn't believe what she was hearing and tried to stay calm.

She preferred to ignoring him and asking him about his life, so they were speaking about their lives and there weren't many changes. He had upgraded in his work. He worked in a business. About her, she was a teacher of Primary and she was working in the same school.

Then, they spoke about their love life and none of them had a partner. It was an uncomfortable moment for her.

Here there was a secret. She got pregnant but he didn't know it and broke up with her because he was in love with another woman. For this reason, although she was in love, she didn't want to be his girlfriend. She had suffered a lot and she was trying to get it over.

Lucy denied it and said he had been a bad boyfriend because he had been unfaithful and she didn't want to have any more problems. She was perfect being single.

John started to promise her he wouldn't do it again but Lucy didn't believe him because she was deceived three times. She was jaded.

John became angry but he tried to pretend it didn't affect him and invited her to his place to show it to her, because he altered all his house.

She accepted the invitation, so he paid the account and they went out of there.

When they arrived, he opened the door and suddenly a puppy dog started to bark and jump. Lucy had always wanted a dog like that and she was amazed because John didn't want to buy one when they were together.

After looking the house, she sat down in the living room and started to caress the little puppy while John was in the kitchen drinking water.

When he returned, she asked him why he had bought that dog if he didn't like it and his answer was that it was a present for her because he wanted to be forgiven. He was really sorry about what he did and he said that, in this time without her, he realised she was the person who wanted to stay with.

They were talking for a long time, they had dinner together and had a really good time. It was like anything had happened between both, everything was the same.

When they finished dinner, she said she had to confess something. She had been pregnant for four months, since they broke up, so she was the father.

John was surprised. He couldn't believe it. He had no words.

Lucy, seeing that there wasn't any answer, was going to say something but suddenly he interrupted her saying he was excited and he wanted to stay with her and their son for all his life.

Lucy stared at John for a while, as if she were trying to guess in John's eyes that he was honest at last and he was saying the truth, but she was not sure about him and she did not want to be naïve again. Now there was something more important than both of them at stake: a baby who deserved being loved. So, she told him he would have to show her day to day he was a loyal person, and in that way, she would see if that relationship would be solid.

John took her hand softly and approaching to her, he whispered her: "I have a whole life to show how much I love you, honey, and I won't do it with words, but with facts".
