My parents always believe that secrets hold us back from reaching out true potential, that only the worst kids keep secrets. They think that keeping a secret is like telling a lie, everything should be black and white, everything out in the open, nothing hidden in the dark. That's why their sending me to Willownook, they believe it will teach me to open up, to not hold secrets. The only problem is, if I tell my secret, I'll die.
"Amber, hurry up, we're going to be late for the unloading time!" I hear my mom yell from downstairs, "I'm coming" I tell back agitated that shes rushing me. As I finish up packing the last of my things I'll need, I look in the mirror one last time to make sure I look alright. I haul my trunks and bags down the stairs and into the trunks, and hop into the back seat. The car starts and were off driving down the road. I look back one last time, at the house I grew up in, as it gets smaller and smaller, I turn back around and close my eyes.
Four hours later we arrive at Willownook boarding school, and pull up in the unloading area. As I get out of the car, I look around and see we are one of the last ones to be unloading. 15 minutes later, with everything up in my room, I say good bye to my parents.
"See ya at Christmas sweetheart" says my dad hugging me one last time, before he walks out of the room,
"See see ya dad!" I yell after him.
"Goodbye darling" says my mother with a hug and a kiss in my cheek,
"bye mom", I reply back.
"Now be good, you hear? And try to learn something please." She says adamantly.
"Mom, I already told you, I can't learn anything here that I couldn't at a normal school" I tell her trying to get my point across.
"Honey, we've been over this, we're sending you here so you can learn not to lie and become a better person. The only way you'll learn not to lie to us, is for you to be away from us."
"That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard, I'm not lying, it's called a secret," I mumble to myself.
"What was that dear?"
"Nothing! Now go! I can't unpack with you and dad here." I say as I push her out of the room.
"Ok, ok, now bye and be Good! And know that we love you!" She tells as I close the door with a kiss and a wave.
With my door now closed, I look back at the room. It's a simple dorm room, for a school like Willownook. I have a kitchen, bathroom, living room area, a place to do my laundry and two bedrooms, all the necessities provided. I walk over to my boxes and start moving them to their designated room. Not to long into unpacking, I hear a knock on my door. I walk over to it and open it slowly to find a boy standing in front of me, about 8 inches taller than my height.
"Hi" he says looking at me.
"Hi" I reply.
"I just wanted to say welcome to Willownook" he says now leaning against the door frame.
"Oh, well thank you! But if that's all I hope you don't mind me getting back to unpacking" I say about to close the door.
"Can I help?" He asks nonchalantly.
"Excuse me?" I stare back at him now taking in his appearance. He has black hair, a and a sharp has line. He's talk and muscular, wearing a blue hoodie and jeans, his hands are large with what look to be either scar marks or calluses on them. His eyes though, his eyes are the most captivating part of him, their a sharp blue color, reminding me of ice, with red flecks in them. The opposite of mine.
"Um... sure" I reply a little hesitant.
"Don't worry, I wont steal anything, I just want to help you get unpacked before dinner, cause you won't have time afterwards."
"Have attended here before?" I question.
"Yep, I came here last year" he replies.
"Would you stop pestering her, Chase?" Says another voice, this one belonging to a girl with wavy brown hair, and violet eyes.
"I'm not pestering her, Anmarie, I'm helping her" he retorts.
"Sure you are" she replies back, then turns to me, "hi, my name is Anmarie, and his name is Chase." She says holding out a hand for me.
"Hi," I say "my name is Amber, nice to meet you."
"Sorry if he's been annoying." She says.
"Don't worry, hes actually been pretty helpful, we've already gotten two of the boxes unpacked."
"Oh right, we do need to get you unpacked, you won't have much time after dinner." She says bending down and opening box.
" that's what Chase was saying as well."
I see her open a box full of all my dresses. She pulls out a knee length light blue one, with a puffed out skirt
"This is perfect for tonight!" Says Anmarie, pairing it with silver heels.
"So tell me, how fancy do people get for dinners here" I ask after we're all done unpacking.
"Oh you have no idea" says Chase, "Well speaking of dinner we should probably go and get ready" says Chase walking out the door.
"Yeah, I'll stop by here when the dinner bell rings and we can walk down together" says Anmarie walking out the door.
"Ok, sounds good to me" I say before closing the door, and heading the bathroom to start getting ready.
I've just finished putting on my shoes when the dinner bell rings.
'Here we go' I think to myself, just as I hear a knock on my door.
