Broken Road (draft 1, free written, unedited)

Each step i take reminds me of the broken road i walk.
Curb, trip, treeroot, trip.
Stumbling, drowning on dry land.
Echoes in my head of what could have been,
What should have been.
Am I so blind to let myself fall,
Am I so empty, devoid of skill, of grace.
The lady has not blessed me tonight, or even on the start of this road.
Thoughts, just, the lies of which irk me.
I am alive, the lady has blessed me.
My lungs still breathe,
My heart still beats.
I have a roof over my head, clothes on my back.
A job, a wallet, a meal in my belly.
And yet my luck is unknown to me,
In times of darkness the path can go ever winding.
Curb, trip. Treeroot, trip.
Raining now, "typical English weather".
But even the raincoat i wear keeps no water from my flesh,
I may as well be naked.
My clothes mirror my abilities,
Absorb. Take in, yet never give.
Cannot give, lacking skills but that of a sponge.
If I could pray, if i could bring myself to believe in anything than just the lady and the spinner.
I would pray for reincarnation,
That this pitiful form be washed away down this rain splattered road,
And my soul brought back where i can help the world,
A sponge.
