"You have a lot of time, Ry. Think about it, but later. Now sleep, okay?" Her Papa caressed her hair. "I'll be here if you need me," He kissed the top of her head.
"Take care, Valdez. I'll see you soon," Coach waved her goodbye.
"Thanks, Coach," She smiled as he and her Papa left her room.
Rylen shifted her bed back to its original form. Somehow she was still sleepy even after sleeping for so long. Though her eyes were filled with sleep, her mind was filled with decisions she had to take.
Rylen wasn't sure if she would go to college, study further, and play college football. But now that her dreams were coming true, she wasn't so sure if studies should get in the way. Reyanna wasn't pursuing her education as well.
Reyanna was sure she had to become what their Mama was, a wedding planner and no amount of studies could help her like real life experience. From her pre-teens Reyanna had been a part of her mother's team, working with her team and learning everything she should. Now Reyanna handled projects on her own and was pretty good at it, almost as good as their Mama.
Maybe Rylen could play and not study. But she liked it as well. Ughhh!!! This was so confusing!
She decided to let her mind stop her from being happy. With a smile on her face, Rylen decided she wanted to sleep more.
It was next day evening, and Rylen's mood was getting worse. First, she couldn't move from the stupid bed without feeling any pain. Second, she had visitors every minute. She wasn't upset about the visitors. They all were her family and friends, but the only person she expected would come wasn't there. And lastly, she didn't understand why she even cared he wasn't there. Enrique Alvarez could fuck himself, and she wouldn't give a damn. So why was she cribbing about it?
Her Papa had to leave for office so her Mama was going to stay with her in the hospital for the night. Rylen refused that she didn't really need anyone at night. She was given medicines that made her sleep through the whole night. But parents were parents, they never listen.
"How are you feeling, sweetheart?" Her Mama asked after Juan, Sanchez, Merida, and Reyanna left.
"I feel tired of sitting here. Why can't I move?" Rylen asked for the nth time.
"Ry, you have to understand that the medicines are strong and make you dizzy. If you walk, you might lose balance and hurt yourself," Her Mama repeated patiently.
"I hate sitting and not doing anything," She whined.
"I brought your laptop and some books from home. I'll go and get them from the car," Her Mama remembered.
"Oh, Ma! You're a lifesaver," She grinned at her.
"That's what mothers are for. Stay put until I return, okay? " She kissed her forehead after Rylen nodded, and left the room.
Rylen looked out of the window. The only interesting thing was to look at the sun set, and the night sky to appear. The motion helped her calm her mind down. She was thinking a lot. Rylen was an over thinker. Moving here and there, or playing helped her calm her thoughts. Now that she wasn't allowed to move, Rylen was lost in the tornado of her thoughts.
Why was she feeling upset when everyone was here to cheer her up? Why didn't she seem to be happy with them? It's not the medicines and that was sure. She was missing him, missing Enrique Alvarez.
He was the one who helped her in the first place, preventing her fall. She had looked into those chocolate brown eyes which weren't icy anymore but were filled with worry for her. She thought they were black, but his eyes were distinctly chocolate brown. She could see he was wearing lenses, but they didn't look like colored lenses.
