Like Minded (Part 1)

"Why are you not in your clothes?" Rylen asked.

"Huh? I am wearing clothes," Her Mama looked confused.

"I mean work clothes," Rylen corrected.

"I took an off," She shrugged as if it was normal.

"What? Why? How?" Rylen gaped. Her Mama? Off? How?

"Because your Papa took off as well. We decided to, you know, have some us time," She told Rylen.

"Us time?" Rylen wrinkled her forehead.

"I am not sure if you'd like to know," Her Mama was trying to bite back her grin.

"I am confused. You and Papa took an off for us...." Rylen paused mid sentence when she realized what her Mama was talking about. "Shit! Ew ! Ew! " She shuddered. She tried to block the mental images. She didn't like watching them all romantic and shit.

"It's not 'Ew', Ry, but we'll talk about it later," Her Mama told her. "First of all what you said about your Papa being the reason to let you play is bullshit," She said and Rylen gaped at her Mama. She swore in front of her 17 years old daughter! Papa was definitely rubbing her off. Her Mama rarely ever swore out loud. "Other clubs have girls playing as well. You know that, and you are as talented as the boys in your team," She said and Rylen made a face.

"Okay, you're right. But I still don't want to wear a dress," Rylen whined.

"I know. Let's go shopping. We can look around and find you something you like and is good enough for your party. What say? " Her Mama proposed.

"Okay, but we are not taking Reya or Papa," Rylen bargained.

"Deal. Reya is at Manolo's anyways. I'll talk to your father. I'm sure he won't mind me taking you out, and, you know, leave him..." Rylen didn't let her finish her sentence.

"Don't say it! Don't say it! " She shouted. She didn't want to have those mental images.

"I was going to say leave him to have lunch alone, but okay," Her Mama chuckled, and got up to leave.

Rylen shook her head before falling back on her bed.

Her parents were still very much in love. It was almost twenty years of their marriage, and they still behaved like a newly married couple sometimes. She had often caught her Papa staring at her Mama while she was cooking, or talking on the phone.

Rylen's Mama always knew what her Papa was about to say.

He never had to ask for something from her. Like when she made cold coffee for everyone, she made sure their Papa had an extra glass. She would refill it before he could ask for more. She knew exactly what he would comment on something, which was odd if you ask Rylen. It seemed they were telepathic.

Even though they bickered on small things like tomatoes in salads. Her Papa detested tomatoes while her Mama loves them. To big things like business decisions, and new ventures. Their love never changed. Sometimes, not so deep down, it forced her to think if she could find something like that someday.

Rylen ran her hands through her hair to untangle them. It was pretty useless though. Her shoulder length brown wavy hair was always a mess even when she combed them. So she left them that way. Messy and uncombed, the way they are. She didn't apply makeup either, none of it. Not even gloss and mascara like all the girls. Rylen used sun screen in the name of beauty product, or she'd be dark as a brownie.

Rylen had dark colored skin due to playing a lot in the sun. Reyanna was paler than both she and Roman, she just didn't tan much just like their Mama. Roman, on the other hand, was just like their Papa.
