A/N:
Ok i'm gonna be honest here and say that I've never played Skyward Sword, or watched an entire playthrough of the game. But the art featured above (credit to JereduLevenin on Deviantart!!) seriously inspired me, so I looked at some Ghirahim encounter videos and the Wiki page so here we go!

Link sighed as he wandered through the dark and dingy dungeon. He drifted into his thoughts as he continued through the stone brick rooms.

Earlier that day, he had stumbled upon the entrance to this strange dungeon on a quest to find Zelda. He had never known of it's existence, and it had no name he could see, either. It was full of many puzzles, but surprisingly he found no enemies along the entire way. Believing the dungeon was long abandoned, Link could only hope for the best. His thoughts went back to Zelda and the eventful morning he had.

~~~~~~~~~
Link settled down with Zelda on the blanket in Faron Woods. They had decided to have a picnic together that day to relax from all the work they had been doing on the surface. Link looked on eagerly as Zelda grabbed the basket and started setting out the food.
"It was a great idea to take a break, Link, but it does feel strange that we aren't working." Zelda admitted. "I feel like any moment someone is going to come along and scold us for slacking off."
Link nodded, silent as ever.
Zelda placed the last plate of food down, noticing Link staring longingly at it.
"Dig in." She encouraged, laughing. Link quickly reached for a sandwich, but suddenly paused before he grabbed it. He tensed up, and stared off into the woods behind Zelda.
She noticed this and paused as well. "What is it Link?" She questioned.
Before he could answer, small diamonds started to appear behind Zelda. In a flash, Ghirahim was there. Before Link even had time to react, he grabbed onto Zelda's arm. She gasped in surprise, struggling to escape his firm grasp.
"Too slow, Link." Ghirahim taunted, "I've gotten her this time." He chuckled maniacally before vanishing into thin air, along with Zelda.
Link knew he should've brought his weapons.
~~~~~~~~~

Link shook his head, going back to focusing on the task ahead of him. There was no point thinking about that now. There was the boss door coming up ahead of him. Picking up speed, Link ran over to it and fished around in his inventory for the big key he had acquired in the dungeon prior to this.

Finding the key and placing it in the lock, the door unlocked with an audible click. It creaked open slowly, and Link scanned the room for any signs of a boss. He unsheathed his sword, ready for anything that would come rushing at him.
It was just a very long hallway, and much like the rest of the dungeon, it seemed to be abandoned. All except for the very end of the hallway, where he spotted Zelda sitting on the floor by herself. She seemed lost in thought and desperate, most likely going over ways to escape.

Link started to run down the dimly lit hallway, coming to the conclusion that there was no boss. The sound of his footsteps echoed down the corridor, which alerted Zelda. She turned to him and panicked.
"Link, go back!!" She yelled. "Go now, before he gets you!"
Link slowed to a stop and examined her location more closely. Too late, he realized she was being blocked off by one of Ghirahim's barriers. That must mean he was in the room with him, waiting to strike.

Not even a second after the thought occured to him, a hand clasped over his mouth and he was being held back.

"Looks like you made it."
Link recognized the voice as Ghirahim's.
"Did you really think I'd be stupid enough to put the princess in an abandoned dungeon and let you take her that easily? How foolish."

Link struggled against Ghirahim's grip, however he couldn't break free. His arms were pinned behind him as well, the sword he had in his grasp being rendered useless. He heard the sound of Ghirahim's sword being unsheathed, and Zelda called out again.
"Link!! Please, Link, fight back!!"

But he couldn't.

Ghirahim, without taking his hand away from Link's face, readied his sword.
"I've been waiting for this moment for too long. You will no longer get in my way." He proclaimed.

"Goodbye, sky child."

And Ghirahim plunged the sword into Link's chest.

"aGH-" Link cried out, his voice muffled by Ghirahim's hand. His eyes widened, the usual determination in them gone. They were just filled with unimaginable pain.
He went limp in Ghirahim's grasp and the sword he was holding clattered to the ground.

Zelda started screaming.
"Link!! LINK! NO! Fight back! Do anything! Please..."
She knew there was no hope for the Hero of Time. She broke down into tears.

Blood drops splattered onto the floor, the drips echoing down the hallways. Link was breathing heavy, and despite the unbearable pain, he never spoke a word.

"It's no fun if you don't beg me to stop!" Ghirahim exclaimed in mock frustration. "Come on, Link! Cry out in pain. Let me hear that unspoken voice of yours."

Link said nothing, and after a moment Ghirahim grew tired of waiting.
"Alright then," he said. "If you're going to be like that, then there isn't much point in me being here anymore." He turned to Zelda.
"I'll be back for you later. Then I can finally continue with my plan!~"
Ghirahim dropped Link, his limp body hitting the floor with a loud thump. He grunted in pain, but that was all.

Ghirahim walked out of the corridor, closing and locking the door behind him. As soon as it clicked shut, the barrier holding back Zelda faded away. She stood up and ran over to Link.

"Link!" She cried out. Crouching down, she held the dying hero in her arms.
"Please Link," she sobbed, "Don't die. Everything is going to be alright. You're going to be fine."
She couldn't even convince herself.

Link looked up at her. His blue eyes were dull and pain was apparrent in them. His green tunic was stained a crimson red in the chest and blood was pooling onto the floor.
"Please," Zelda whispered. "Don't leave me Link."

Link started to reach out to her, but his hand was trembling violently and he couldn't get it up all the way. His breathing was becoming shallower with every breath he took, and he had blood coming from his mouth. He gave a weak smile before his eyes went blank. His hand fell to the ground and his body went limp in Zelda's arms.

"Link? Link!!" She started to sob. She knew he wasn't going to reply, though. Her head rested on Link's chest as she screamed in despair.

The Hero of Time is dead.
