... The only sound in the ship is the hum of the engine. 

No voices. 

They understand, though. 

Or rather, 

They like to pretend they understand. 

It's easier to see a dull rock out of an unbroken geode; 

He sees her spitfire attitude, 

Her hunger for thrill, 

And the irresponsibility of a girl with little to lose. 

He doesn't see her drinking to remember, 

Running away to be found, 

Smoking to die, 

Because she forgot what it felt like to lose her breath. 

...

It's easier to see flowers without their wilted petals; 

She sees his goofy humor, 

His selective recklessness, 

And the way he seems to take everything as just another joke. 

She doesn't see his jaded past, 

His shattered heart, 

His desire to wake up through death, 

Because to him, life is but a dream. 

...

... But there's not enough time to tell sob stories about the past, 

between the hunts for bounty heads, and 

The gunfire of a firefight, and 

The constant useless and ever meaningless bickering, and 

The static silence of the ship. 

Because in that silence, 

She's chasing the ghost of who she was before life took a few swings at her.

He's chasing the ghost of a woman who saved his life with her own. 

...

Besides, 

The news is on. 

So, for the time being, 

They'll pretend to understand each other, 

Listening to the silent buzz of the radio...
