it was like any other day when josh would invite himself over rosemary's place he greeted mary, he got into the elevator, he thought over what he'd talk about that day, it was all routine by then. but of course, quite didn't last too long.

he waltzed into the living room like rosemary owned a normal homestead, dangling his key ring on his finger and spinning it around to idle himself. he skipped up the steps to the second floor, knowing rosemary was probably in her office overworking herself like always. when josh walked in, he saw a clean room. no stacked papers, no cluttered floors, but most importantly, no overworked girl.

josh's eyebrows furrowed at the unusual sight. he closed the door of the office and walked back out into the hallway, looking at the various doors she could be behind. there were so many rooms in the place, he couldn't even remember which was which.

"rosemary?" he called out like he'd get a response. he chuckled a bit at his own stupidity. he knew it was good to laugh at himself instead of tear himself down, and he was trying to make that less of a mantra and more of a reality.

josh continued his search until he opened one door like he had all the rest to see rosemary sat on the floor right at the window, staring out at the restless city. it was her empty room, it was mostly just ceiling to floor windows. She had the corner of the top of the building, and the room was that corner of the window sided building. it was quite the sight, just rosemary, the dark wood floors, and plain glass looking out to the sky. he slowly reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, snapping a quick picture on instagram. it was just so beautiful, how the sun behind the clouds peeked through and she just sat there with perfect posture, her hands folded in her lap, she just looked so at peace. so perfect. he decided he'd caption it 'i like this.' then, he liked his own picture. he had to stay true to his word, right? he couldn't just say 'i like this' and not like it.

the shutter of the phone's camera was easily heard in the room, and rosemary didn't even flinch. she just looked back at josh with her eyebrows furrowed. she looked him up and down with that same expression. they say actions speak louder than words, but with rosemary, that was the exact opposite. no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't decipher what she could possibly be thinking. that might've been what was to intriguing to josh.

"hey." he said simply, giving an awkward lopsided slime and stepping into the room. "that's a really nice view." josh hesitantly stepped more forward, glancing from the windows to rosemary. something seemed off about that day. rosemary lightly pat the floor next to her, sending josh a small smile. it kinda loosened him up a bit. he sat down the same as her, criss cross. their knees touched as they both stared straight ahead. josh was so focused on the view that he didn't even notice rosemary write something down.

he looked over when he felt a tap on his shoulder, first looking at her face then noticing the journal. he took it and read the words on the page with furrowed eyebrows. she never started conversations.

"i'm in a rut." josh read aloud, tilting his head a bit to the side in confusion. "what do you mean?" he gave the notebook back and let his eyes wander around her face, his expression unknowingly worried. she was quick to jot something down, and josh was even quicker to read it to himself.

"i need to get out of my own head. i do the same thing every day, i'm going insane. i need to let go for a bit." josh nodded after reading, handing back the book for the last time. josh understood where she was coming from in some ways, but he knew he could never fully understand.

"well yeah, you're cooped up in this apartment all the time surrounded by coldness and your own work. you need to get out of here." josh reasoned, shrugging his shoulders. he turned his view back to the city, as had rosemary. he saw her shift, and she had her knees pulled up to her chest and her ankles crossed. she hugged her legs and just stared, from what josh saw. and that was it. they just sat like that. surprisingly, josh wasn't bored one bit. something about just sitting there and watching traffic and people crossing below were peaceful. and the silence of it all wasn't making him want to rip his hair out as it usually did, it was more like a comforting hug.

rosemary shifted, but josh was too focused to notice, yet again. he glanced over when he felt a thin finger tap his shoulder, then rosemary holding a paper to him. he didn't take the book this time, instead, he just scooted a bit closer and read over her shoulder.

"go on a trip with me." josh read out, his eyes widening once he had finished her sentence. "well uh- isn't that kind of sudden? when would we go? where would we go? how long would we be long for?" josh rambled, putting up a finger for each question. sure, he didn't have anything really going on and could, theoretically, go on a sudden trip. rosemary didn't write anymore, she just looked at josh and shrugged her shoulders, answering all of his questions with that. she did quickly jot down a few words.

'we'll go anywhere and everywhere in a week. just go pack your bags and meet back here tomorrow.' josh didn't read it aloud this time, his eyebrows furrowed as he read. though the thought was outlandish and totally out of josh's comfort zone, he had a strange urge to go with her. a random mute girl he had only met a month ago and him on the road with no destination except home, it was surprisingly appealing.

"i uh..." josh stuttered, pushing back his hair with one hand as he blew out a sigh. he glanced at rosemary, and she was looking right back at him. right when they locked eyes, he was sold. he stared into her eyes for a few seconds, debating whether or not he'd really do this. "yeah... okay. i'm in." a smile spread across rosemary's face when he said this. he couldn't help but smile too. her smile that was brighter than his own hair was too contagious, and with how rare it was he couldn't help but be happy he had been the one that caused it.

they kept just staring at each other like that, and it didn't seem like either of them were moving. until rosemary shook her shoulders a bit and her smile widened, her nodding her head towards the door. josh took a second to understand, but he was blushing when he did. "oh, uh, yeah. i'll see you tomorrow!" josh got up from his spot on the floor, stumbling towards the door and down the stairs with a face as red as a tomato.

the smile on his face was uncontrollable. he practically danced to his car, taking his phone out of his pocket and seeing that tyler had texted him. he then noticed the time and the fact he had been just sitting there for two hours. it only felt like fifteen minutes, but time flies. tyler had only asked josh to hang out, which he replied with a yes of course. he was out of the apartment lot and to tyler's house in minutes, now trying to think up how the hell he was going to tell tyler he was going on a road trip with some random girl for a week.
