Chapter #1

"You know I didn't ask for this job." Chanyeol huffed. His voice was so close as he towered over me.

My eyes trailed up to meet his eyes. Every now and then I forget about the accident that cost him his left eye, I forget he has the prosthetic glowing red one our sourcerer made him. It's startling at times.

"I know you didn't. You would've taken any other position offered to you except the one where you have to guard the bratty spoiled girl. But you know what? I didn't ask to be in this situation either." Matching his frustration I pulled the only thin material that covered my body closer.

The mountains of Antarctica held no warm light. Especially when your hidden in a cave. The forgton skeletons in the cavern illustrated how unforgiving the climate was.

"Yes you did. May I remind you that you decided to run from your duties, Princess?" He would never relinquish his power over me, would he? Exonerating me from blame was never an option for Chanyeol. To him, it was never enough to be constantly reminding me of all that I hate.

"Little miss, "I don't want to become queen so I'll run away." He mocked but there was no humor in his voice, no playful undertone. Just his stone cold gaze.

My eyes flickered, faltering with tears for a moment. "You don't understand. You'll never understand" curling my knees up to my face I shook with an unexplainable feeling.

He stood quietly, I almost began to think he had left, until I felt fabric drape over me.

Looking up, I found him sitting next to me. "I don't want your jacket" I shrugged it off.

"I didn't offer it to you, keep it on. It's an order." He pulled it back around me, gripping my sides tightly.

Years of military grade training could never be removed chanyeols character, he was nothing short of a soldier after all.

When we used to be closer, he would tell me stories about his days in training, of the people he met, the places he went and all of his experiences. There was one part in particular, where he was offered to become lieutenant of his sector but he denied it. It was perplexing to me, after seeing all that why would he give it up to be a mere soldier.

"Chanyeol, may I ask you something?" Quietly I waited for his response.

"Yes." He spoke, probably questioning if this was something he'd regret later.

"Why did you reject the opportunity to become Leuitenent? Wasn't that the reason you joined the force?" There was a silence that followed. This was when I became hyper aware of his arms around me. I felt his fingertips around my waist. He was so warm. It was as if he was a light that engulfed me.

I began to resign my hopes of receiving an answer until I felt his grip tighten even more.

"I refused because being a leader has never been something I've wanted. I don't want to send ythose men off and possibly never see them again. I don't want to stand on a stage and speak about how great I am when there are people out in the frontier dying. People who deserve all the recognition. I am unworthy of such a position." I couldn't see his face due to his grasp bringing me into his broad chest but I could feel the way his heart beat picked up and the way his manner of breathing shifted.

"Well, if Leutenent Kim offered you the job then that means he saw something in you. Something you have yet to see, Chanyeol."

We have to spend the night here until your father sends his jet.

The hotel room was small, it felt so much more intimate than when he watched me in my room back home. We would be sleeping mere feet away from each other.

"I have
