My fingers trembled as it grazed the rusting metal. My friends, Tisha and Sandy were clutching each other, whispering the sacred words I wished we followed earlier.
"We shouldn't have come here, Melanie!"
The floorboards creaked with every step we took. The hallway was dimly lighted, except for the occasional clumsily carved pumpkin. The house was huge, and it seemed we had been here forever.
Bats screeched through the midnight haze, and wolves howled at the full moon. The silent patter of footsteps raced through the hallways, and left me breathless.
Woosh! The wind howled through the curtains, cutting the silence sharply. A child, no taller than 1 metre, head tilted downwards with wet hair, stood silently before us.
Hastily, the girl locked her black eyes with me and ran at an inhuman pace. Scurrying around, and crawling on the walls on all fours, then twisting her body in an unsatisfactory shape.
I jumped back in fright, into the arms of the girls. We screamed loudly, running away as fast as we could.
We escaped the hallway and walked in through a large double door. The girl that was once behind was no more.
Just the silence that frightened us once more.
Spiderwebs were everywhere, and the faint scuttle of roaches sent me jumping about, causing the floorboards to break apart, leaving me falling for my life. I tried to grasp for anything close, but I was left with splinters and a bad attitude.
The fall seemed endless. I couldn't ever remember even hitting the ground. But when I did, I was swallowed whole into a black abyss. From all around me, my body was tugged, each in directions that made my stomach churn and my limbs ache.
I screamed as claws scratched my limp arms. I tried to break away. I tried to force the black eyes from my mind. Yet, all I could do is to stare into the limitless orbs of red creature.
It yanked me from the grasp of the others, and stared at me hungrily. I kicked and I screamed, but my voice was nothing but a strangled whisper.
The creature was a holy horror. It was blinding red, with devishly long horns, and fire that coated his black eyes.
Suddenly, I felt hot. Fighting for air. The gaze of the creature — the creature from Hell — took the air from my lungs.
It was a desperate scream that never escape my mouth. I could only manage a few words. "Please, no!" My voice sounded scratchy, and strained. My skin burned and the devil laughed aimably at me.
Then... he finally spoke. The words were loud, full of anger and humour. His very voice frightened the living daylight out of me as he screamed deafeningly into my ears.
"You are not strong enough to withstand the storm that will be bestowed upon you."
His eyes glared infuriatingly as I gasped more and more for a breath. But I could feel Death tugging on my arm, pulling me closer to the inevitable fate. I wasn't ready.
Suddenly, the painful arms of death wrapped me in fire that sent my voice screeching to life.
The pain that resonated in me was unstoppable. I could only respond with howls of pain, and only then be pushed to death even quicker.
Despite my blurry vision, I could see the red outline of the devil, and the raucous laughter he created.
Then, I saw the black demons, and I felt them tugging on my body.
I tasted the blood on my lips. I felt the feverish pain on my body. And it sent me in wild fits of anger. My heart pounded.
The black eyes of the demons fluttered to my mind, and all I wanted was an escape. I was being dragged to Hell. This wasn't how I wanted to fall.
I was being burned alive by the scorching flames, yet my only objective was to escape.
The devil stared at me, watching as hungrily as before.
You are not strong enough to escape the storm.
The words of the demon came to mind, and I stared purposefully. I was still scared out of my mind. I was in unbearable pain. I was still so resilient.
"I am the storm."
With those fiery words, I yanked my arms towards me, and kicked those in my way, until I continued through the flaming chasm.
When would it end? When would I finally leave the fire in the dust?
It seemed even as impossible as before. I fell through the cavity of blackness, the only light the blazing fires, and the only hope: death.
I could see no way out. Coming to the strange haunted house had been a mistake. I couldn't even think of my friends as I fell. I could only think of the fear consuming my mind; my heart.
I was losing my sanity. And when I finally lost hope, I was engulfed in water. And I screamed. The pain was as everlasting as the last. I couldn't even stop to take a breath through my cries. I could smell the smoke, and only feel pain.
I was going to pass out. I sunk further down the water, until I hit the bottom. My eyes were open, burning slightly as the water flooded around my open eyelids. I was ready to let go. I couldn't bare the terror that was bound to continue.
In fact, I hoped and wished it wouldn't. Couldn't I just die in peace? I lay on the bottom of the water, staring up into the fury of darkness, until I saw the most terrifying shadows I could have ever imagined.
A Black Eyed Ghost Child came at an unnaturally quick pace towards me. I was stuck at the bottom and losing my breath. And just before I lost myself, the unnatural fast black-eyed demon, screeched and stuck its razor teeth into my neck.
My cries grew louder and louder, and the demon bit harder, and as I looked into the eyes of the demon — empty, emotionless, a deep black void — I died.
