Not Easy at All

It was a beautiful day, truly it was. Beautiful day or not, though I was scared.  Scared for Kit, scared for Jazz. Heck, I was scared for myself. But there was no way I was going to let that show. Right now, I was sitting up in bed, looking at my surroundings. My bed was a regular twin bed with a faded blue quilt covering it.

Jazzes bed had a green quilt and Kits had a light yellow one that reminded me of some much needed sunshine. It was only around six, but I hadn’t slept at all. I was restless because tomorrow was Monday, and Aunt Cari had us set up for school. I had never once switched schools, so this would be totally new to me.

We all still had no idea to control our “gifts”, so today was “training day”. Aunt Cari had filled us in on our positions in the whole Roman curse thing as well. Apparently, we had different names that go along with our positions. I was Fiona, the Fortum. That’s what the thumping was. I was hearing Kits and Jazzes heartbeats with my freaking voodoo hearing.

Jazz was Anca, the Lector. Bye, bye, privacy.  She could do all sorts of things. Read minds, insert pictures or thoughts into minds, control minds, and a little telekinesis. Jazz was afraid to do any of it, though. She couldn’t help hearing our thoughts, though. Jazz had never been one for crowds anyway.

Kit was Catalina, the Natrix. She would need a little time and a lot of attention to learn to control the power inside of her. So in short, it would be mostly Kit out there today. All I had to do was tune out things going on from miles away and try not to throw around any eighteen wheelers. Jazz sure as heck wasn’t going to lift anything out of the air with her brain, she was way too scared. Kit just needed to not set anything on fire. And there we go! Hidden from reality. “Girls?” I hear. “Yesss?”  I reply.        “You guys have to get up.” Aunt Cari said. I huffed and went to wake my family of three.

“Okay, you guys, this isn’t going to be the easiest thing in the world.” I wondered at what she meant. Of course, I expected it to be difficult, but I didn’t expect her to tell us like we didn’t know. We started with some simple exercises for me. What I didn’t expect is when she grabbed me by the neck and whispered “Go along with it”
