I ran inside my house, blocking out all of the blood curdling screams from outside. I haven't even witnessed my first shift. Our first shift happened at 12, and I was only 10.
I ran into the safe room, down in the basement where everyone else was quietly hiding, including my mother. I ran to her as she threw her arms around me and clutched my shirt. We stayed in this position for a few moments until I step back with wide eyes, turning to look at everyone else.
"Mommy" I whispered quietly as I tug on the bottom of her shirt. She crouches down next to me, her long brown hair messy as it stuck to her face from tears. "What is it baby?" She caresses my cheek with the back of her hand.
"Daddy-" I look down "he's gonna find us" my mother shoots up as she looks around as she stairs back down at me. "No, baby. We're safe in here" I shake my head 'no'.
"This is our house. Daddy knows where everything is, including the safe room." I look at my mommy only to see her cover her mouth with her hands trying not to cry.
You see, my father is the alpha of Westwind pack. He turned his back on us, and is now killing off our pack.
"Everybody to the back room!" My mother demands as we hear a crash upstairs. They all just stop and blink "now!" My mommy raises her tone. I didn't like seeing her this way, not at all. And to be fair, I still didn't know exactly what was happening. All I knew was that daddy was mad... really, really mad.
We rush into the back room that leads to the forest. If we continue, we would hit Firewood pack, and their territory. We heard the door behind us break open as everyone ran once they saw my father in the doorway, blood smeared everywhere. Not knowing who's blood it was.
My father. My own father. Covered in my pack members blood. My mom picked me up as she shifted. I held onto her fur as I rode her back. Turning back I saw my dad chasing us. Us.
"Mommy, daddy's coming!" I yell nervously, already knowing it's not a good thing. "Alright, baby girl. Hang in there" my mom soothes as she darts off behind a large tree throwing my dad off course. I turn again only to see my dad catching up quickly. As the alpha, it was his job to fight well, be quick, and run fast.
"Mommmmyyyyyy-" I stretch out the word, alerting her that there is something wrong. "Mom!" I shriek as my dad jumps on her tail but misses. My mom bolted while my dad steadied himself to his feet.
She spun around sharply, knocking me off her back and throwing me to the ground. I was in horror as my dad leaps onto my mom, clawing and tearing his way through her. Blood splatters everywhere, as my mom has a few good blows too.
My mom strikes for my fathers head and when unbalanced, she bulldozes him, knocking him to his side. She turns towards me, "RUN!" She yells. I stare at her as I watch my dad slowly get back up and attack her leg. "Mom! No!" I shout, tears filling my eyes.
"RUN, KELSEY!" My mom winces in pain as blood drips from her leg. Being the coward I was, I ran.
I glance back for only a second to see my father take down my mom, plummeting her to the ground. I ran, and ran, and ran. I went to a cave and concentrated deeply on what my mom told me two years ago.
'Focus on the shift, and when the time comes, you'll be ready'
I focused hard on transforming but nothing happened. My inner wolf! I felt within me and got down on all fours. Then, a sharp, blistering, pain came through my skin as my bones felt like they were being shattered and then rearranged. I closed my eyes tightly and pressed my lips together.
I see through the slit of one of my eyes to see glowing white fur on my arm, and what was once my hand, was now my paw. A long snout stretched out my face as furry, white ears pop up from my head.
I fully open my eyes, to find a bushy, fluffy, snow white tail. I moved it from side to side, I love my wolf! I love her! I wonder what my eye colour is going to be!?
Part of me hoped to have brown eyes, like all the other wolves. But the other part of me wanted blue eyes, like my mom. You could always tell what she was feeling through her eyes.
I walk over, out of the cave and see a broken, shattered piece of glass. Stepping over it, I lean closer.
Blue eyes.
I feel happy until I hear a long, pained howl coming from Westwind. My father. It was my fathers howl, and he was not happy. I continued running in the opposite direction. That is, until I turn back around, and walk back over to the cave. And wait.
My mother used to tell me, that if anything ever happened, come to this cave and wait for her. So, I waited... and waited... and waited...
It had been three days. My mom still hadn't shown up. There was only one thought left in my mind. He killed her.
My father, killed my mother in cold blood. And I watched it happen.
I began to flee away. I continued running, although I was weak from the lack of food and sleep, I still ran.
~*~
Over the years, I spent dodging rogues, and packs. I hadn't dared to shift back to human form, knowing I would be too weak anyway. I built up my strength through my wolf, hunting for food, and fighting rogues. I had officially become the lone wolf. The one from all the stories, all the tales, and all the legends.
I had developed a hate for Alphas, I hated everything about them. My father wouldn't even think of doing something that horrific before he was made Alpha. But ever since, he had become demanding, and controlling. Always yelling at someone. Even me, and he used to love me. Or at least, I thought so.
I shake me head, it's all there fault! I hate alphas!
I hate them!
