I love Netflix, I really do. Lots of things are on Netflix and this made me realize how lonely I really am. But that's not the point. Netflix has been on a roll with making new movies and shows. But the shows (And animes at this point)that they remake or make a reboot don't really live up to the hype. With Death Note, in general, the movie was OK, I watched it right when I got up this morning since staying up until it said 12 am on my clock was not enough, (They should seriously take time zone into consideration, to be honest. If it says August 25th, they should put that movie or show they release on that day with different time zones. Like I get that people would get mad if Netflix knew where they lived, via. timezone, but it's not like people already know that. If you think about it, the government and the FBI have like your fingerprints, where you live and pictures of you with drivers license and school and group and public records. So why get mad?)<--Sorry
So, in regards to the story and style of characters and such, (knowing that anime is not real, and so many jaw-lines are just animated *sigh*) that maybe the characters would be off. Just not...this off. With this in mind, we can just imagine Light (just what he looks like). Light Yagami: Handsome, 17(looks maybe 20 at the time people start to die), Japanese(Woah, shocker), and kinda tall. Light Turner: Ugly, 17(looks like a 27-year-old millennial going through a midlife crisis. Which is probably true for our actor Nat Wolff), an American. Now going on that this is a problem. Not only the setting of which the movie takes place in Seattle Washington. Since Netflix (I believe) makes its originals and stuff in America, going to Japan and getting all Japanese Americans in this movie would be crazy hard to film and everything like that. I get it, it would be a lot. But this is why America doesn't make reboots of animes because they would have to change a whole bunch of stuff and it just takes everything out of what it was and why it was good. Putting it like "I'm Death Note, but in America and my characters don't act the same and they don't look the same and the story was suuuppperrr off. Then whats the point if you are trying to be something with a fan base and many people that could critique you on not doing it right? Whats the point if you don't do it right the first time and get yelled at but people that know what was wrong? That went a little off topic but if you were going to try and make an action movie with the Death Note stuff, then blow everything off like how people act and who is who, and everything is unlike the other, then once again, what is the point of naming it Death Note and changing everything that makes it unique as an anime.
I know that ranting like this is stupid but if Netflix wanted to make a good IRL version of Death Note, or any company for that matter, of any anime, they should stick to what makes it special as an anime. Stick to the story, characters should at least try and look like they did.Since Netflix made this, this way, they might as well made another action movie with some kind of killer, or something. Because how they did it with the Death Note just was kinda stupid. Like they left a lot of key parts out and IDK maybe they should have had someone really into the anime there to help them. I don't know.
I wanted to see this movie right when I saw the trailer when it first came out. I hadn't even seen the anime, but I was familiar with it and I knew that all 37 episodes were there. Back then I had these people that I liked to hang out with called friends (crazy right?) and I didn't have the time or mental capacity to watch it. I was excited for it to come out and I was clueless what I was getting into really.
The cast...OH BOY...I'm pretty sure like everyone was triggered at the cast list. L in the movie is Black...now I really LOVED Keith Stanfield's acting. But him playing L just wasn't right. As much as the acting could work for an awesome detective movie, he just did not act like the L from the anime. Wow, he kinda sat like the real L, Illuminati confirmed. I understand that Netflix is pushing that really diverse stuff and that's good, but if you were trying to make a remake like that which each character is different in acting and in what they look like I get it. But making this something that it's not, don't make it at all. (Seriously loved Keith Stanfield's acting, would LOVE to see him more and movies, Netflix where are you at now?)
I feel like this isn't going to make sense to anyone, and they think I'm some kind of a racist bitch, which I'm not. I'm just ranting my opinions through my fingers to my keyboard.
I feel like it was a good movie to outsiders not knowing the original Anime, but to the people that did watch the anime, are displeased. I'm not terribly displeased, this movie did LOOK good with the visuals and a few of the actors did awesomely and I'd love to see them in a few detective movies that are original. I just think if you are going to use a name, use it right if it is an original that someone else made.
Loved the anime, movie was OK as a casual anime watcher.
That's just me. Do you have Netflix? Did Light in the movie kinda look like Kody Co? What do you think? Leave your comments I'd love to read them.
Love Y'all for reading bye!!!!
