Flashback

4 years earlier

My mom and Riley parents are going on a business trip for the weekend and Riley older sister is gonna be watching us so we gonna have a sleepover all weekend.

Mom :did you pack properly princess

Honor :I think so

She takes my duffel bag for me while I take my backpack. We get in the car and drive to riley house. When we get there riley is waiting at the door. I run over to hug her. Her mom comes out with a suitcase. Her and my mom hug each other. They've been friends since they were kids so she's like an aunt to me. We all say our byes after riley dad comes out with the last suitcase.

Mom :bye lovebug. I love you ok? Kiss yourself good night for me and try not to drive Meka crazy

Honor :*laughs*love you too. Bye

I hug her one last time then run into the house.

It around 3am and I just woke up to get a glass of water from the kitchen. As I walk down the stairs I see meka talking to a cop at the door. I sit on the top of the stairs and eavesdrop.

Cop :Giovanna Cortez,Brianna and Steven Brooks have been involved in a fatal plane crash....there were no survivors found. I'm sorry for your loss.

After hearing that I felt like my whole world had tumbled on me. My mom was everything to me. She was my rock, she gave me life. She was the only family I've ever had in my life and now she's gone. No,this must be a bad dream,I'll just go lay down. I'm sure everything will be back to normal when I wake up from this nightmare. I didn't even realize I was crying until my tears hit my hands. I slowly stand up feeling everything around me spinning. I seen to lose strength so I grab onto the stairs railing. Just then everything becomes a blur. I feel myself falling down the stairs and Meka screaming before I completely lose consciousness.

Flashback over

That was four years ago. My life's never been the same since my mom died. Since she was the only family I had and they couldn't track down my father I was put in a foster home in Compton. In the foster home I made a friend named Keilani. She had gotten to the foster home two years earlier than me when she was eight after she watched her mom kill her dad who used to beat them. She got arrested and got sentenced to 30 years in prison. Riley and her sister Meka were passed from relative to relative for a few months before they also came to the foster home. Meka left two years ago when she turned 18. Me,Riley and Keilani are currently 14. We've still got a long way before we get out of this hell hole.
